Our Law department is ranked among the top 200 departments on the planet according to the QS World University Rankings (2017). Engage in a discourse on human rights law, informed by thinking on rights from political, sociological, philosophical, economic and historical perspectives. You are presented with the theoretical foundations, substantive knowledge, and evaluative tools for you to understand and respond to national, regional, and international legal and political developments. Our LLB Law and Human Rights develops your critical awareness of the nature of law within its social, political, sociological, philosophical, economic and historical contexts. As a law and human rights student, not only will you learn legal rules, but you will also consider the function of law in society, the philosophy of law, policy issues and law reform.
Many of our courses offer a choice of optional modules to tailor your learning experience. More information about these can be found on the University of Essex website.

Essex was amazing! The campus was seriously beautiful, had many a lovely afternoon sat by the lake on campus trying to revise. There’s a great community feel here, everyone is very friendly and there are amazing support services at the Union. Be sure to pick the right accommodation – if you’re ready to party every night, stay at the Towers, where no-one ever sleeps! If you’re a quieter type, the South Courts are a bit more relaxed although there’s still parties to be had. My teachers were also amazing, and I had a great time on my course.

Genuinely loved my time at Essex. Would definitely recommend it. Only problem I would say is that it's name doesn't math it's reputation yet - Essex continues to grow stronger, but as such a young Uni, it doesn't get all the credit it deserves.
