Course Summary:
Flexible Combined Honours (FCH) gives you the opportunity to study otherwise unavailable or unusual subject combinations and to customise your degree programme, making it distinctive and different. This is usually done by choosing two subject areas for your first year. It is sometimes possible to take a third subject as a minor one, such as a foreign language – please ask about this before applying. You can also follow one of the readily available themed pathways such as Mediterranean Studies or Historical, Political and Sociological Studies for the whole or part of your study from your first year. You can combine subjects in various proportions and the proportion can change each year, provided any core, compulsory modules are taken. You can also drop a first year subject and start a new one or follow a new themed pathway from the second year. The following subject areas are available through FCH – you can combine any two unless otherwise stated: •Ancient History •Anthropology •Arabic •Archaeology •Art History & Visual Culture •Biochemistry •Biological Sciences: molecular and cellular biology •British Sign Language (minor) •Chemistry •Chinese •Classical Studies •Classics •Computer Science •Criminology •Drama •Economics* •English •Exercise and Sports [email protected] •Film Studies •French •Geography (Human) •Geography (Physical) •German •Greek (Ancient) •History •International Relations* •Italian •Japanese (minor) •Latin •Leadershipâ—Š •Management •[email protected] •Medical Sciences •Mediterranean Studiesâ—Š •Middle East and North African Studies •Philosophy •Politics* •Portuguese •Psychology# •Russian •Sociology •Spanish •Strategy and International Security •Sustainabilityâ—Š •Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (minor) •Theology â—Š themed pathway – can form all or part of a programme ^ themed pathway forming the whole programme of study – is not combined with another subject * cannot be combined with each other ** cannot be combined with each other @ cannot be combined with each other available both as British Psychological Society accredited and as non-accredited pathways All FCH students study the same modules as those taken by other students at the University, so you will be studying alongside others with the same interests. I made the right choice choosing Exeter. It has given me an enjoyable and stimulating education. The range of societies available has given me opportunity to come out of my shell and make great friends. The city is pretty and nice, with good transport links to bigger cities. The campus is beautiful, modern, and has lots of study space.
