Qualification type:
  • MA (Hons), Full-time , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
**Psychology** is the scientific study of people: how they think, act, react and interact. It is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivations underlying such behaviour. Psychology at Glasgow is ranked 2nd in Scotland and 8th in the UK (Complete University Guide 2019). **Theology & Religious Studies** encompasses the study of religion, religions, the Bible and theology – not as worlds apart, but as they relate to politics, history, literature, philosophy, art and culture as well as to personal belief and practice. It is open to students of all faiths and none. You can study new languages from scratch: Greek and Hebrew are available from beginners’ level upward, so that you can learn to read the ancient texts of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament in their original languages. Our staff have a wide range of specialties which will help you to understand world religions: including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism; in their cultural, political and intellectual context. In addition, we have a team of knowledgeable and friendly staff who help make TRS at Glasgow a great place to study.

Glasgow was an incredible place to live and study! I was seriously not expecting the amount of stuff to do in the West End, with the Bard in The Botanics festival being a particular highlight. There’s something to do for every taste there, and everyone makes it down to the West End Festival during the summer, which does a load of great food and music and is a great way to unwind after deadlines. The tutors are fantastic, too – always receptive to questions, providing detailed and interesting lectures and they provided such great support to me throughout my studies.

I think overall UoG is a great university but they are lacking in some areas such as support for mental health, expensive costs for courses as well as accommodation.

Overall, the University of Glasgow is a good university. This is reinforced by its consistently high rankings in the league tables. I chose it because I loved the city and its people, the location, and because it was 4th in the UK for Psychology. However, along with Psychology I have to study 2 other subjects. I was expecting to be put into the College of Science but instead was put into the College of Arts, which means that my only options for my second and third subjects are things like languages, history, politics, classics and archeology. I feel resentful that I have to study these things that I did not come to university to do, and it puts a dampener on the whole experience as I don't feel passionate about what I'm studying. I wish there had been more information and guidance about this prior to applying.
