Course details
Course UCAS code: Q311
Qualification type:
  • BA (Hons), Full-time , Duration: 3 Years
Course Summary:
Where language comes from and how people use it is one of the big debates of our time. This subject looks at how the English language works, how we use it to communicate, how we acquire it in the first place, and how it varies according to social factors. The modules make extensive use of web based resources such as interactive exercises. Our Religious Studies pathway combines insights from Philosophy, Media Cultures and other disciplines in order to help you gain a deeper understanding of how religion is central to many social, political and ethical issues. We'll introduce you to various theories of religion; the ideas, beliefs and practices of some of the major world religions - such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism; and how religion impacts - and is impacted by - some important contemporary controversies. Our unique Humanities Programme at the University of Hertfordshire enables you to study a combination of major and minor subjects to create a really bespoke degree that suits both your strengths and interests. It's up to you whether you continue with your unique combination from your second year of study or simply specialise in perhaps just one or two subject areas.

I had great tutors and support during my course, and I'm very happy with that aspect - it's an amazing place to study law. The library and PC facilities are top notch! Hatfield is a small town, but you can still find something to do. If you are more a pub person, you can hang out with your mates on campus or in Hatfield, or if clubbing’s more your scene you can hop on the bus to St Albans, which is full of places to go.

It’s a fun community with caring and supportive staff, a university with really good facilities and it’s welcoming to be here and experience life away from home.

People who come here want a decent University experience that can hold its own. One shouldn't compare this uni to the likes of other unis like SOAS (if you are interested in japanese culture like I am) but it is still a very solid average university.
