BA (Hons), Full-time With Time Abroad
, Duration: 4 Years
Where language comes from and how people use it is one of the big debates of our time. This subject looks at how the English language works, how we use it to communicate, how we acquire it in the first place, and how it varies according to social factors. We offer a unique mix of modules, focusing on: the English language itself - its sounds, words and structure - how it has developed - how it is used to communicate - how it is learned by children - when it goes wrong - how we can teach it as a foreign language.
Our unique Humanities Programme at the University of Hertfordshire enables you to study a combination of major and minor subjects to create a really bespoke degree that suits both your strengths and interests. It's up to you whether you continue with your unique combination from your second year of study or simply specialise in perhaps just one or two subject areas.

I had great tutors and support during my course, and I'm very happy with that aspect - it's an amazing place to study law. The library and PC facilities are top notch! Hatfield is a small town, but you can still find something to do. If you are more a pub person, you can hang out with your mates on campus or in Hatfield, or if clubbing’s more your scene you can hop on the bus to St Albans, which is full of places to go.
