Subject

Human geography

The interaction between humans and the environment has given rise to some of the most pressing issues today, from climate change and global warming all the way to political instability and inequality. Our Geography BSc(Hons) degree aims to help you understand the core principles of human and physical geography, with many routes for specialisation.

You’ll have the opportunity to study a wide range of modules, including earth processes, dynamic living systems, social, environmental, and cultural challenges and principles and practices in geography.

After completing the core modules in your first and second years, you’ll be able to specialise in your final year.

**Why Study Geography BSc(Hons) at University of Huddersfield?**
Teaching staff at the University of Huddersfield rank in the top three in England for the proportion who hold doctorates (HESA 2022) and have expertise in a range of geography subject areas.

Away from campus, you’ll gain relevant real-world experience. In the third year of the course, you’ll put your knowledge and skills to the test in an optional work placement in your area of interest. In the final year, you’ll have the chance to develop and enhance your independent research skills as part of the geographical research project module.

Learning through doing is important for any geographer in training, so look forward to field trips and fieldwork throughout the course. These will allow you to put theory into practice.

This course will prepare you for a variety of potentially exciting careers. You could work in the industry as a planning ecologist or environmental impact officer, tackle key geography issues as a policy analyst, or conduct research as a climate change scientist.

**Professional Bodies**
The course is accredited by the Royal Geographical Society and is reviewed on a regular basis.

**Why Huddersfield?**
Huddersfield’s vibrant and friendly campus is a great place from which to study, while the town itself offers lots to see and do, with good transport links in and around the area.

Post-six month graduation stats:

This is from the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey, based on responses from graduates who studied the same subject area here.

It offers a snapshot of what grads went on to do six months later, what they were earning on average, and whether they felt their degree helped them obtain a 'graduate role'. We calculate a mean rating to indicate if this is high, medium or low compared to other universities.
