Youâll explore all aspects of nursing, from the fundamentals of providing care to more advanced topics such as complex needs, and leadership and management. While the focus of your studies will be on caring for adults, youâll also gain an understanding of how to respond to the needs of all patients and service users from all fields of child, learning disability and mental health nursing.
Supported by a team who really understand what itâs like to be an adult nurse, youâll learn through lectures, seminars, group work, simulation and role play. In our fully equipped simulated ward, youâll have the opportunity to put what youâve learnt into practice in a safe environment using our patient simulators. The course aims to help you become a confident, competent, caring and compassionate nurse. You'll develop a range of specialist skills including communication, decision-making, team working and upholding professional values.
Youâll undertake clinical placements throughout the course in a variety of settings including hospitals, nursing homes, in the community, as well as voluntary and private sectors. Youâll learn and develop both practical and theoretical skills in order to help and achieve your full potential as an adult nurse and meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards.
Please note: the information for this course is subject to change, as the Nursing and Midwifery Council are releasing some new nursing standards in Spring 2018 and the course curriculum will be changed to reflect these accordingly.

You'll be assessed through a combination of coursework, practice/competency based learning, written and practical exams. This includes essays, reports, case studies, OSCEâs, simulated exams, in-class test, as well as conference, group and poster presentations. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.

Huddersfield was a challenging and fun experience for me. The lecturers really inspired me to think creatively and forced me to consider new perspectives. The city life is ok, there’s not tonnes of clubbing but you can always hop on the train to Leeds or Manchester for a mad one. I prefer to hang out in the pub after lectures, anyway. There are loads of great facilities here too, the library is particularly amazing. The careers service is also incredibly helpful, I walked straight into a job after graduation!

Overall, the university has few faults. There are always friendly faces on and around campus, there are always events and things going on that cater to all interests. The teaching quality is very very high, and lectures are always made to be engaging.
