Social Anthropology is a distinctive degree subject allowing for the holistic study of people's social relationships and cultural values in a wide range of local, global, diasporic and transnational settings – their political and economic organisation, their use of rural and urban spaces and their systems of knowledge and forms of religious experience. Social anthropology entails a profound understanding of how and why people (including ourselves) do the things they do – for example, how they work, use technologies and negotiate conflicts, relationships and change. Social Policy looks at the ways in which we as a society promote the welfare of individuals and families. You study some of today's central issues, such as poverty, well-being, ill-health, education, crime, homelessness and child protection. This includes looking at both the nature of social problems and also at the policies directed towards them by government.

Canterbury is a great place for students, with loads of us about. There are a huge range of students from all over the world here, and everyone is really welcoming and friendly. The streets are beautiful, there are loads of great shops and cafes in town. Club Chemistry and Chill are where the majority of students go, but I found a lot of evenings went by nicely in The Penny Theatre, which has nice cheap pints and food. The professors are amazing, and the support services are constant and very helpful, and I felt completely supported academically.

I honestly love it. Literally my only criticism is that things can be expensive but its just about being reasonable and not going out for restaurant meals or personal shopping every week.
