Audiology at Leeds is highly rated with 100% of our students in employment or study six months after completing the course (NSS 2016) and 95% student satisfaction (NSS 2015). This is a three year full time programme of study which integrates theory and practice with around 50 weeks of placements. Clinical practice is a fundamental and critical component of the programme and you will gain lots of work experience in clinical departments with our partner regional NHS Trust Hospitals. Throughout the programme you will develop the skills necessary to become an audiologist, but you will also gain more general skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, independent learning, scientific enquiry, professional working and reflective practice.
Year 1: You will learn the key principles of neurophysiological healthcare science. Our modules will introduce you to a range of audiological assessments using our on-site clinical laboratories. You will experience short placements in audiology, neurophysiology and ophthalmology clinics and begin to develop your research understanding. You will undertake 10 weeks of practice and placement in university and in hospitals. Year 2: You will develop your hearing assessment and rehabilitation techniques in preparation for clinical placements. There will be a focus on adult hearing impairment and technological options to improve quality of life for hearing-impaired people. You will put theory into practice developing your skills during 15 weeks of NHS clinical placement and develop a research project proposal. Year 3: You will learn about a wide range of hearing and balance disorders and treatment options. You will undertake a novel research and complete your final 25 week placement.

Leeds was an amazing experience, probably the best student city in the UK. There’s no better feeling than whiling away the summers in Hyde Park with a cider and some good mates, and the nightlife is incredible – so many different student nights on, and the taxis are dirt cheap. A great bonding experience for all is The Otley Run – a 21 strong pub crawl that takes you into the city and how I forged some of my best friendships. In terms of the Uni, my course was amazing – loads of detailed lectures, secondary materials and passionate lecturers.
