Our four-year masters level MEng course equips you for a career in product design, industrial design or in the product development sector and has been developed to address the specific needs of industry to give its graduates the best possible chance of obtaining the career they want. The degree will give graduates an advanced level of understanding of design, aesthetic and analytical approaches to designing new products and our strong links with industry with companies such as Dyson gives students the opportunity to become industry ready.
The first year offers a broad foundation in engineering science and design, manufacturing processes, material selection and mathematics. Example modules include Creative Techniques in Design, Industrial Design and Dynamics of Mechanical Systems. In the second year, you will develop your design skills and commercial awareness further whilst working on a group design project. Example modules include Computer Modelling Systems, Design Visualisation Techniques and the Second Year Group Design Project. In the third year you will take an individual project as well as core modules in product development, ergonomics and manufacturing processes. Year four will give you the opportunity to undertake a major project with industry whilst you undertake further modules in project management and ergonomics.
