The theology element involves the exploration of religion, examining key thinkers and ideas across all religious communities. Your philosophy classes will encourage you to think logically and critically about humanity, dissecting our perceptions of the world around us with coherent argument. These modules will be delivered by innovative teaching staff who will encourage you to delve deep into the philosophical and theological worlds. You will develop your own reasoned arguments and learn to address complex themes with confidence. You are encouraged to carry out independent research and reading, which is facilitated by an outstanding collection of resources in our dedicated Manuscripts and Special Collections Archive.
In year one, you will have core modules in central philosophical problems as well as a choice of optional modules, whilst gaining a broad foundation in the critical study of the Bible, the historical development of Christian thought, modern Christian ideas, and Islamic tradition. During year two, you'll choose from a variety of optional modules, building on material studied in year one. In Theology, you'll take a core module in Philosophy of Religion, as well as the possibility to study in more depth areas. Your final year allows you to choose from a variety of modules including writing a dissertation on a topic of your own choice. In Theology, there is a wide range of choices, and you may concentrate on philosophical approaches to religion.
