Course details
Course UCAS code: C101
Qualification type:
  • Msci (Hon), Full-time , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
This course provides a comprehensive, modern treatment of microbial, plant and animal (including human) biology, and emphasises many specialisms which, by virtue of recent rapid technical advances, are strengthening the impact that biology has on society. The breadth of these topics will prepare you for careers in both biological and non-biological disciplines. This course is recommended for students who expect to follow a career in the biological sciences and would benefit from an additional year of masters-level research training. Your research will be conducted in our modern laboratories, where you will have freedom to specialise in the areas of biology that most appeal to your interests and aspirations.
Modules:
In your first year, you will study the biology of animals, plants and microbes and the biochemical, evolutionary and genetic processes that underlie their biology. In your second year, a major theme is health and disease in humans, other animals and plants. You will learn about the genetic and developmental basis of disease, the fundamental biology of pathogens and parasites, and what happens when the nervous system doesn't work properly. The third year includes a major practical project that allows you to undertake your own biological investigation as well as varied optional modules. In your fourth year, you will focus on designing and implementing your own research project working alongside expert academics.

Highly recommended as Nottingham is such a great city, surrounded by lovely greenery. The university is also extremely huge!

I think the Uni is one of the best in the UK. Taking into account what the city has to offer and the provisions made by the university, staff enthusiasm and a focus on students needs, I am very happy I chose this uni over others.
