This four-year MSci is designed for those who wish to pursue a scientific career or further research at the highest level. You will focus on developing your research skills throughout the course, culminating in designing and implementing your very own research project in your final year. You will be guided by the highest calibre of research-oriented staff throughout your time at Nottingham. Furthermore, we will ensure you have access to cutting edge facilities in our modern laboratories, which include a dedicated nanoscience research building and physics laboratories equipped with the latest technology.
Your first year will give you a solid foundation of knowledge in physics and nanoscience, with typical modules covering both the fundamentals and frontiers of physics, complemented by mathematics and laboratory modules. Your second year will build upon this foundation: you'll take the Force and Function at the Nanoscale and Molecular Biophysics modules alongside your study of a range of core topics in physics. Your final year will consolidate your knowledge, covering more advanced nanophysics topics in imaging and manipulating nanostructures, and self-assembly, and self-organisation. You will also study advanced physics modules covering topics such as quantum mechanics, atomic spectroscopy, light-matter interactions, and solid state physics.
