Course Summary:
On this course, you will have the opportunity to study both Portuguese and Spanish from beginners' to degree level. Your language studies will be supported by facilities such as our dedicated self-access language centre with an extensive range of resources for independent study. Furthermore, you will enjoy a range of optional modules, studying modules which address various aspects of the cultures, histories, and literatures of the Hispanic and Lusophone worlds. In your third year, you will consolidate your studies and practise your language(s) by spending the year in Spain, Portugal or Latin America. The diversity of the countries which you may visit during your year abroad will give you an in-depth outlook on different Spanish and Portuguese-speaking cultures.
Modules:
You are introduced to aspects of modern Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American literature, culture and history. In year two, you will develop your knowledge of both Spanish and Portuguese to prepare you for the year abroad. You will also deepen and widen your knowledge of more specialist aspects of modern Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American literature, culture and history. Your third year is spent abroad, either studying at a university, on a work placement or as a school assistant. In year four you will build on your language acquisition in year three to develop your language skills to degree level, and will select specialist options from a range of research-based topics in the literature, culture and history of Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

    Highly recommended as Nottingham is such a great city, surrounded by lovely greenery. The university is also extremely huge!

    I think the Uni is one of the best in the UK. Taking into account what the city has to offer and the provisions made by the university, staff enthusiasm and a focus on students needs, I am very happy I chose this uni over others.
