During this degree, you will enjoy world-class teaching in physics, with focus on its specialist applications to the medical world. This will be enhanced by lectures delivered from practising medical physicists from our adjacent Queenâs Medical Centre, one of Europeâs largest accident and emergency hospitals. This is a valuable opportunity not only to develop high levels of theoretical understanding, but also to gain a real insight into the application of physics principles in the medical world. This practical learning will take place in our outstanding, modern laboratory facilities which have cutting-edge research resources ranging from MRI scanners to x-ray diffractometers.
In years one and two, you will build up your knowledge of the subject through modules in the core elements of physics. You will also develop the mathematical skills needed to speak the language of advanced physics. In your third year, in addition to the core physics and medical physics material, you will take the modules in mathematical applications and communication skills that prepare you for the innovative final year of our MSci degree. In the final year there is a synoptic element that is targeted towards subjects of interest to medical physicists, with a module on image processing and analysis. You will also undertake a major research project in a medical physics environment.
