Midwives offer care and support to pregnant women, their partners and their families. They provide care throughout the pregnancy continuum which includes antenatal, intra partum and post partum care. On successful completion of this degree you will be eligible to register as a midwife on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Professional Register.
A key component of the course is problem-based learning (PBL) where you will be actively involved in the learning process through problem solving, investigation, team work and self directed learning. These skills are also developed through the small caseload experience within the course.
During the first year of your studies, you will gain an insight into normal midwifery which will prepare you for midwifery practice. We offer a diverse range of hospital and community clinical placements. The second year of your studies will give you the opportunity to undertake a further three placements as well as learning about more complex care in midwifery. Your third year of study will delve deeper into the challenges associated with midwifery and the research behind the practices. You will also complete three placements, which will reinforce your learning and prepare you for becoming a qualified midwife. Career prospects

Manchester is a legendary party city, with loads of things to do every night and lots of things catered to students. The facilities at the Uni are amazing, they’re constantly doing it up and there’s loads of space and computers in the Library now, makes studying so much more relaxing. The staff are all really helpful, and my tutors were incredible – really interesting intellectuals, down to earth and with plenty of great advice and feedback to offer me.
I have genuinely enjoyed my first year at university immensely. The course has made me think and question my ideas, allowing me to critique my own work to improve it, I believe the extensive group work has given me the confidence to decide for myself if something I've produced is good, and be confident in my decisions. My tutors have been lovely, and with the small class sizes all of my tutors know my name, where I'm from, what my style is, my strengths and weaknesses and how I want to go into the photography industry in a particular genre. I've been allowed access to equipment and techniques, I hadn't even thought to try before. The university also offers a lot of student jobs, during term time and over the summer. these jobs can be anything from office work, or showing people around on open days, but they pay exceptionally well and inform you on new jobs frequently.
