Course Summary:
Make a lasting impact on the lives of women and their families with a clear understanding of the physiological, sociological and psychological aspects of childbirth. Ranked top ten for nursing and midwifery in England (The Times University Guide 2017), this degree will give you the confidence and competence to challenge practice, for the benefit of your patients and the wider midwifery profession. Upon finishing your degree you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (the body that regulates the UK profession).
Modules:
Modules are designed to cover the many subjects needed for midwifery including health sciences, psychology, sociology, leadership, politics and the fiscal aspects of midwifery.
Assessment Methods:
Assessments range from essays and exams to projects and professional conversations. These take place throughout the course to ensure that you are reaching the right levels of attainment. Your practical skills will be assessed whist you are on placement and recorded by your practice mentor.

The University of Southampton is a fantastic university which undertakes world-class research and amazing teaching. I have experienced first-hand the enthusiasm and passion of my lecturers and seminar tutors. The campus is particularly brilliant due to the large number of facilities based directly on campus such as the GP, Costa, Banking etc. In addition, the campus is incredibly green and is filled with nature and animals. The pastoral care is also very good and so it is easy to feel welcome at this institution.

    Couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. It strikes a great balance between academia and a really fun place to live and study for a few years! In the unlikely event of any issues arising there are numerous university services to help you solve them :)
