The course is a mix of theory and practice approximately 50% of each. Students are taught at the University of Suffolk Ipswich Waterfront Campus by an experienced midwifery teaching team. While in practice students work closely with their midwifery mentors who support them during both hospital and community practice experiences. Students learn in small groups which provide a good support network. University of Suffolk is able to provide a very experienced teaching and practice team to support students in their learning and development.
On completion successful students will be awarded a BSc (Hons) in Midwifery and are also able to register as a Midwife (RM) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and therefore practice as a midwife anywhere in the UK.
Employment within the trust where students have their practice is not guaranteed students often find employment as a midwife in the partner trusts or elsewhere in the NHS. Further opportunities exist to practice anywhere within the UK or European Union as a midwife. There are also numerous opportunities to work as a midwife in other countries where the UK qualification is recognised.

The campus is small and really community focused, it’s impossible not to make friends. It’s also all on the waterfront, which is seriously lovely in the summer. Teachers are really passionate about their subjects and encouraged students to share and develop our ideas. The SU is also amazing, loads of great nights on too. University of Suffolk is a really well-kept secret.
