Course details
Course UCAS code: DN49
Qualification type:
  • BSc (Hons), Full-time , Duration: 3 Years
Course Summary:
Joint honours are ideal for students who wish to combine two areas of equal interest or who would benefit from the greater flexibility offered by studying the two subjects together. Ecology and Environmental Science make an excellent combination for students wishing to gain a greater understanding of how animals and plants interact with their physical and chemical environment. Ecology and Environmental Science are inextricably linked on this joint degree. For example you can study properties of soil and water and relate them to the distribution and abundance of plants/animals and the communities in which they occur. Environmental Science modules include: environmental analysis, GIS, meteorology and climate, river monitoring and assessment, environmental impact assessment and environmental pollution management. The Ecology modules allow you to learn about landscape and restoration ecology, applied GIS, and freshwater ecology, as well as developing survey skills specific to the sector. The Environmental Science modules will develop your analytical skills for soil, water and the atmosphere, combining fieldwork and lab-based analysis; combining them with their application to topics such as environmental impact assessment. At the University of Worcester you will be provided with an unrivalled amount of hands-on ecological and environmental experience, coupled with invaluable underpinning knowledge. Your learning will also be enhanced by Worcester's superb proximity to numerous sites of high wildlife value, including nature reserves, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). Contrasting environments further afield can also be explored during a residential field trip to France. The University's laboratories meet modern expectations for professional laboratories with two dedicated for student research in addition to those used for teaching.

I love Worcester! Everyone is so friendly and chilled out. The uni's small but growing quickly, and the small teaching groups mean you get real quality time with lecturers and they can address all of your concerns and questions. The Hive, aka the library, is full of really useful resources and I ended spending far too much time in there. Worcester has a nice little student scene, with plenty of pubs, coffee shops and places to hang out in it’s beautiful streets. You can even borrow a bike from the uni to get around!
