Were you expecting to go through Clearing?: No

How did you find the Clearing process?: It was upsetting to hear that I didn't get into my preferred university, but the college I went to helped me finding a suitable university that would except me. I also looked at the newspaper and ucas site to see what uni's were available and soon found a place on a different course at a different uni.

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: Accounting and Finance. I thought I would like the subject but wasn't sure about the uni itself, in fact I hadn't heard of the uni until clearing. Luckily enough it all worked out in the end.

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: I am glad I went through clearing as I have met some great people. I would still have liked to go to my firm choice, but I'm not to fussed about that anymore.

Did you make use of any of the Clearing/Results Day resources on TSR? If so, which ones and how useful were they?: Yes, I had subscribed to the clearing page, which was useful enough to get me through.

Do you have any tips or advice for people who may have to go through Clearing in future?: Just relax, if you didn't get the grades, your teachers/family/friends will help you through it. Every year hundreds of students go through clearing, don't let it get you down.

Were you expecting to go through Clearing?: No

How did you find the Clearing process?: Tough as I couldn't get into any university and I felt pushed by my school to find any university with places to fill and go there instead.

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: I ended up taking a gap year. I will go to university in September to study a foundation year, then I will study the course I have always wanted to study - Politics and Sociology.

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: I am on a gap year and working, and I am so glad that I took the gap year in the end.

Did you make use of any of the Clearing/Results Day resources on TSR? If so, which ones and how useful were they?: Yes - the Clearing thread, and I started a thread asking for advice. TSR was so useful and helpful as it helped to see other options and others who were in the same situation.

Do you have any tips or advice for people who may have to go through Clearing in future?: Don't rush into anything - you don't have to go to university straight away. Go through Clearing if you want, but don't be disheartened if you cannot get into any university. There are other options. Also, make sure you visit the university before deciding to accept the offer from Clearing.

Were you expecting to go through Clearing?: Not at all, I thought I'd aced my exams, I'd worked hard and was excited about starting at university. I also had chosen universities that I knew people had gotten into even though they'd missed their offer by a substantial amount.

How did you find the Clearing process?: I found out I hadn't got into my insurance choice first through an email as UCAS wasn't working, I knew that I'd clearly missed my grades for my firm also but, I couldn't check UCAS. I ended up calling up my first choice and found out I hadn't get in. I cried for a bit and then knew I had to get over it. I walked down to my newsagents and picked up a copy of the Guardian at about 8 am giving me two hours before I had to go to school to collect my results. I started shortlisting places I would consider going and started checking out the websites for a bit of information about the courses. I then went into school and collected my results. Luckily one of my teachers helped me through the whole process in his office. We started calling up places and he gave me some key questions to ask. A lot of unis said that my grades quite simply weren't good enough, others I couldn't get through to at all. I ended up with 4 clearing offers and chose the uni that I enjoyed the look of the course most of all.

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: I originally applied for History and Politics at my firm and insurance unis and now I'm doing History which I'm ecstatic about. I'd only really applied for History and Politics because the requirements were less than straight History so I was thrilled. I was pleased with what had happened and was excited to start - the uni has a great reputation and I knew people that had gone there and had an amazing time. I was nervous of course, but, just as excited as I would have been for my firm.

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: Things are great. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else than where I am. I've met the most amazing people and my course is better than I could have hoped for. My university as a whole is actually better than my original firm and insurance so I did very well. I've now just finished my first year with a 2.1 and can't wait to start my second year. I really am glad I went through clearing even though it was incredibly stressful at the time.

Did you make use of any of the Clearing/Results Day resources on TSR? If so, which ones and how useful were they?: I used the past experiences mainly and the TSR guide to clearing day. They were incredibly useful - it gave me an idea for what to do when I knew I was in clearing.

Do you have any tips or advice for people who may have to go through Clearing in future?: Don't panic if you find out you're in clearing. Feel free to cry and do whatever you need to to calm down. Being calm is key because you can't talk to unis if your crying. Your teachers are also there to help you. Don't worry, clearing is incredibly stressful, but, you will get through it!

How did you find the Clearing process?: STRESSFULLL! i was so eager to find out if i got a place. i was crying like, all day! never wanna go through that again. UCAS couldnt have done anything with the huge number of people going through it though, so i cant really blame them .. nothing more could have been done for me.

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: The course I applied for, with a year in industry. I was always gonna go for my course or put off uni for a year. But the year in industry? Best decision ever!

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: SO HAPPY. Can't be more grateful. Ended up at a great uni with great friends who also went through clearing. would have never met them otherwise!

Were you expecting to go through Clearing?: I knew there was a chance I wouldn't make my firm uni, which was the case but I didn't expect that I'd be really unhappy at the prospect of getting into my insurance.

How did you find the Clearing process?: The first 3 or 4 uni's I was unsuccessful at, but I didn't really have a problem getting through and I think that's cause I called up the next day.

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: BSc Psychology, I was really looking forward to it.

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: I'm glad I ended up where I did, I love my uni, I wish I stuck to my original course choice though, rather than changing courses during clearing.

Did you make use of any of the Clearing/Results Day resources on TSR? If so, which ones and how useful were they?: Yeah, the guide to results day. It was useful in that it just reminded me to keep a clear head, as I was panicky.

Do you have any tips or advice for people who may have to go through Clearing in future?: Keep at it if you find that you're unsuccessful. Have all your results documents with you incase they're needed.

Were you expecting to go through Clearing?: Not at all to be honest, I expected to have just slightly less than my predicted grades.

How did you find the Clearing process?: It honestly an awful feeling, busy phone lines, it does take a lot of patients to get through and constant effort.

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: I ended up with Computer Engineering, I thought it seemed like a good course which combined my mathematical skills and my interest in technology.

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: Things are ok, but obviously I wasn't , would have preferred my original choice of Economics or something similar, issue was that it all came done to the universities left in clearing, of which many were not good at all for my course.

Did you make use of any of the Clearing/Results Day resources on TSR? If so, which ones and how useful were they?: Not all, apart from maybe just talking to current students. Which is useful and getting ideas off them.

Do you have any tips or advice for people who may have to go through Clearing in future?: If you didn't make your offer in clearing, but were a grade or 2 under, you should seriously make a call straight to that universities department as they may be willing to take you on.

Were you expecting to go through Clearing?: Nope.

How did you find the Clearing process?: Very stressful but it all worked out really well in the end :)

What course did you end up on and what were your thoughts about it before you started?: Korean, it was the course I'd originally wanted to do but at a different uni.

How are things working out for you now - are you glad you went through Clearing?: So happy - wouldn't have got a uni place otherwise and I actually ended up at a better uni (imo)

Did you make use of any of the Clearing/Results Day resources on TSR? If so, which ones and how useful were they?: I posted in the forums but I didn't find the articles very helpful as they were all very generic - the questions i was asked on the phone were't asked and I wasn't even interviewed, just given a place.

Do you have any tips or advice for people who may have to go through Clearing in future?: DON'T STOP BELIEVING! everything will work out for the best no matter what happens.
