HBOS Banking was formed in 2001 after a merger between Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Since then it has rapidly grown into one of the world's largest companies with assets worth over £590 billion, 72,000 eployees and over 22 million customers. Bank of Scotland and Halifax are both household names (the latter famous for its irritating ad campaigns), and the company continues to expand in the UK. HBOS is now a part of the Lloyds TSB banking group.
