Scotland's Rural University College (SRUC)
Agriculture, Countryside Management, Rural Business Management and Sustainable Environmental Management
Aberdeen Craibstone Campus
A rural campus 5 miles outside Aberdeen, a great mix of people from all sorts of backgrounds. A real community feeling where everyone knows everyone.
Countryside Management has been a great course if you love the countryside and the greatdoors this is the course for you! A really family feeling at halls, a really bunch of good eggs! Agriculture has been very interesting and keeps up with modern agricultural techniques, it has really helped me with my confidence and farming experience!
On Campus Facilities:
The Craibstone Campus has a shop/cafe on campus as well as a gym.
Location of Shopping, Leisure and Religious Facilities:
Nearby supermarkets include: Tesco, Asda and Lidl. Tesco is at Bridge of Don and Asda at Dyce, both of them only a 20 minute drive away. Lidl is at Bucksburn which is a 30 minute walk or 10 minute cycle away. There is also a Scotmid shop in Bucksburn for basic needs adjacent to a Butcher's and a Fish&Chip shop.
For a day shopping in the city, Aberdeen has various shopping centres such as Union Square (includes multiple restaurants), The Trinity Centre and The Bon Accord centre plus an array of shops on Union Street. The bus (Stagecoach Service 37 or 37A) only takes 20-25 minutes from the dual carriageway outside Craibstone to Union Square.
For leisure and other persuits there are cinemas, a theatre, a beach, hair dressers and much more in Aberdeen and a swimming pool, medical centre and McDonald's restaurant in Bucksburn, just to name a few. Aberdeen also has a vibrant nightlife with a selection of pubs and clubs for anyone who fancies a night out.
There are various churches and other religious organisations in the area if this is something you like to attend. The closest churches are in Bucksburn and Dyce but there are a wide selection in and around Aberdeen City Centre which is only a short 20 minute trip away on the bus or by car.
Bars, pubs and clubs
There's a great Bar in Halls, good prices to get hammered!
Clubs and societies
There are various clubs and societies here on campus to join and take part in. Engineering Club is a popular one which gives students the opportunity to work on and learn machine maintenance as well as completing projects such as refurbishing old vehicles. The Rural Skills club is another worthwhile group to join as it involves outdoor practical work which gives students an experience of general outdoor tasks and maintaining special wildlife environments around the estate. For the musicians amongst you there is a music group where people bring along their instruments and give a tune! Some musical acts that have shown face include: guitar, fiddle, bagpipes, singers/vocals, accordion and mandalin. The Fishing Club organises trips to various locations nearby for a pleasant day's fishing (either fly or spinning).
There are three halls at Craibstone, one that tends to be a loud with parties, one for peace and quite and one for the under age students.
Great quality of teaching at Craibstone, the lectures always have time to help students if required and are happy just to have a chat.
