Can someone explain to me what career paths are opened by studying a Doctorate in Education? As far as I can ascertain, all it really does is add to your qualifications list and may help you become a headteacher, although many headteachers don't actually appear to have one. Also, is the M.Ed. open to anyone who has an undergraduate degree, or do you need to have a specific undergraduate degree?

Many thanks for your help, and apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Hi, everyone!

I was just wondering, should I include my high school GPA on my UCAS application? I've just moved from England to America and am currently in my junior year of high school.

However, since I wasn't a freshman or a sophomore here in America, do I need to include my GPA on my UCAS application, or can I just put down that I have a high school diploma without mentioning my GPA?

My GCSEs weren't that good (I only managed to get 4 GCSEs at a C or above), so if they were to be included in my GPA as my freshman and sophomore grades, I'm worried that they'll lower my overall GPA score. I'm doing much better now, though, and I'm currently trying very hard to improve my academic performance!

Help!
I'm really into science and definitely applying for university, but am still confused as to which course I should apply for.
I am studying as levels at the moment, which are Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Computing.

I'm really interested in biology but don't want to be in the medical profession. I'm more interested in lab work- things like neuroscience. I'm also interested in fields such as Astrobiology, and Cybernetics. However I'm really unsure of what to study!
There is only one cybernetics course in the uk, but I would love a job experimenting with prosthetic limbs and combining computer science and biology. Does anyone know how I would do this?

Thank you! :)

Theres a new guy who recently started working at my workplace, thought he was nice the minute I saw him, anyways to cut a long story short I was telling my best friend who didn't say anything at first, but then after a couple of days said was him surname so and so, and I said yes, how do you know, she said oh she used to talk to him through BB agessss ago but all we did was talk on BB and it was more of a friend thing but lost contact after a month or two.

Anyways I was leaving work and this new guy said he wanted to buy something so I said oh I'll give you my work pass number to buy something, he said no take my number and started saying 079...

We've been talking for a bit but most of it is just friendly talk, with a bit of flirty by phone and at work. My best friend knows I talk to him, but is it a violation of trying to get with him? I think he's a really nice guy inside and out but not sure seeing he used to talk to my bestie..any ideas on what I could do?

Wasn't sure which bit of TSR to put this in, but it is kind of a relationships thing cos its about socialising with friends/partners

Does anyone else get extremely embarrassed on the dance floor, and find it incredibly difficult to let go and just dance? This sums me up completely. You see, I do WANT to be able to dance. I have rythm, on my own I can dance and really enjoy it if nobody is looking. When I hear the music in a club or at a party I want so much to go out on to the dance floor and boogy, but find it so difficult to do so with confidence.

I know there is nothing to it, it's just dancing. But I feel so embarassed and don't know why. I think I could dance fairly well/averagely if I just let myself do it! I want to be able to go out with my boyfriend and dance with him. Last time I tried I got so embarrassed and just kind of swayed on the spot, it was rubbish!

I just get very nervous if there is an audience, even though nobody is really watching you dance and probably worrying about their own dance moves. Its a totally irrational fear. Anybody got any tips on how to loosen up and just go for it?! Please don't say getting drunk, cos I don't want to depend on alcohol to enjoy a night out

This is really getting to me, the way we are so...

This is really getting to me, the way we are so interested in protecting minorities we completely forget about anyone else and anything a member of the minority has done. As i'm sure everyone is aware the attack on Woolwich led to the death of an innocent soldier and it has received a lot of attention however all it takes is the EDL protests over the last few days to completely draw attention away from the real criminals and focus it on another group. It is a disgrace how the support for the soldier killed and condemnation of radical Islam pales in comparison to the support for Muslims against the EDL. I in no way think what the EDL is doing is right but I do think that things need to be taken in proportion, the protests staged by the EDL aren't even comparable to the crimes committed by extremist Islam but everyone is far more interested in attacking the EDL. I have encountered statements from a range of different group (which aren't even political) condemning the actions of the EDL when they stayed silent about the attack itself. We should have kept the spotlight on the bigger issue here which is the ideology not only promoting racism but also encouraging people to kill. Our society is so desperate to attack racism that we ignore murder and extremism to pursue a far less dangerous crime.

Hey guys :)

I've currently finished my second year of Biomedical Science at UCL and am looking to apply to medicine this year. However i'm unsure on whether to apply for undergraduate or graduate entry. Seeing as graduate entry is much more competitive with fewer spaces I feel like i'd have a much better chance of getting accepted into the undergraduate medicine course. I've heard that at some universities instead of the 6 year undergraduate course it would be only 5 for me, as I would have already obtained my BSc? If anyone could help me understand this I would be very grateful. My A-level results are A*AAA (maths, chemistry, biology and physics). Additionally, I obtained a 1st during my first year at uni. I'm interested in applying to Nottingham, Kings, UCL and Imperial, but really don't know whether to apply for grad or undergrad entry. Would it just depend on whether I don't mind spending an extra few years at university?

Any advice/words of wisdom would be extremely helpful! I've booked my UKCAT for August and will soon book my BMAT :)

Whenever people make outlandish homophobic or racist comments, people retaliate by saying we need to educate them, they're intolerant and bigoted, etc.

I'm of the opinion that most people are fairly set in their views. When people tell me I'm wrong, I am usually more determined to be stubborn and not change my views. I find it unnecessary that people make such a big deal out of other people's opinions and want everyone to be a clone of them.

OK, so I know racism and homophobia is damaging, but surely this is the case when it's from the government, only, so those people are being "oppressed" by that force. Not an angry person drunkenly saying "go home" or "gay fags" (remember they are unlikely to be a position to make policy), they look silly, but I'd rather live in a world where people can look silly, than a world where the state has the monopoly on what words can be uttered. Can anyone else agree how dangerous this situation could become?

If I'm insulted I may feel initial shock, but I don't want to take their free speech away. I won't change their opinion as you can never successfully change others without excessive regulation into sacred aspects such as family life, even their thinking patterns.

In sum, people trying to "change" people for the "better" are just as imperialist as the racists or homophobes, as ultimately they want a world where everyone is like them. They don't need to be anyone's protector.

Hi everyone! :)
I really want to be a musical...

Hi everyone! :)
I really want to be a musical actress. I'm 21. I've been taking singing lessons for four years. I know that the best option is going to drama school or conservatoire (I think about voice course too) but applications for the 2013/2014 is closed now, so I can apply for the 2014/2015 entry and I'll be 22 when I'll start studying! Will I be not too old? Courses last 3 or 4 years and I'll be 25/26 when I finished it! I think about intensive course in London School of Musical Theatre but this course is expensive and I can't get a student loan for this.
But maybe I can become an actress without going to any course? I heard that it's possible but only for people who have previous experience. I'm not from UK, in my country musical theatre isn't popular and I didn't have a chance to gain experience in school plays or community theater.
What should I do? Could you give me some advice please?

The question is this:
The equation x^2+4x+7=0...

The question is this:
The equation x^2+4x+7=0 has roots alpha and beta. Use the method 2 of example 8.2.1 to find the equation which have the following roots.
(Method 2 is the method where for example, if the equation is supposed to have roots 2*alpha and 2*beta. You put u=2*alpha, then 1/2u=alpha, so can be substituted into x^2+4x+7=0, then multiplied to get an equation in u with integer coefficients, in this case you would multiply by 4)
The difficulty I am having is finding a polynomial with roots "alpha + 2*beta" and "2*alpha + beta". I can do this using the sum and product of alpha and beta, but not using the method I described above. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hello everyone!

I'm a graduate student in population & public health but I have an 'undergraduate level' economics question for you folks! :)

I am looking to convert dollar values from various countries & currencies into USD to a common year (for example: 2013). What I have is a bunch of cost of illness estimates for a single disease that were done on a national level for various countries over the course of about 20 years (mainly the US and the UK).

As an example:

$ 1000 USD (2009) in USA
£ 1000 sterling (2008) in UK

I want to convert the sterling (UK) value into $ USD in 2013. Converting the dollar-figure estimated in USD to 2013 values is fairly easy from what I understand (I can use an online calculator or look up CPI inflation values manually)... but I am a little confused on how to do the dollar-values from other countries.

Would I:

[Inflate first-convert second]
- Use country-specific CPI values (say UK CPI values, or their equivalents) to inflate 2008 £ figure to 2013 £ and THEN convert to USD using a 'current' conversion factor?

or

[Convert first-inflate second]
- Convert the 2008 £ figure to 2008 USD and then use US CPI value to bring up to 2013 USD value?

Thanks so much for the help!

Hi,

I'm currently reading through The God...

Hi,

I'm currently reading through The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I've found the majority of his argument very convincing about the non-existence of God. (I'm referring here to the Abrahamic god, the god of Judaism, Islam and Christianity)

Dawkins explains that the alternative argument based on creationism, the 'intelligent design' theory ("creationism in a cheap tuxedo"), is unsatisfactory as it suffers from the problem of infinite regress - who designed the designer?

Dawkins then posits that evolutionism doesn't suffer from the problem of infinite regress - we can trace back our roots to a single organism. We can trace back the history of our planet back to certain crucial elements. Dawkins suggests therefore that evolutionism does NOT suffer from the same problem of infinite regress as does intelligent design, and therefore as a theory it should be preferred to intelligent design.

However, I find this particular element of his argument unsatisfactory. Where did these elements come from? Where did the fundamental ingredients for the 'Big Bang' come from? It appears that evolutionism suffers from the same problem of infinite regress as intelligent design. I was wondering if someone could perhaps explain away this problem, as admittedly I am still rather ignorant of the ins and outs of evolutionism.

Personally, I would think that the logical position would be deism, a being to set in motion the elements required to kick start evolution. However, I certainly agree with Dawkins that even if there is a God, there is no reason at all to bestow upon him the qualities of benevolence, omniscience and omnipotence.

A function f is defined by a matrix M.

The image of the unit circle under f is

(a,b,c,d are constants)

Find the values of a,b,c,d

So I went about it by finding the transformation of (x,y) under M and popping it into the equation for the unit circle.

So, substituting these into the unit circle gives

But that's not the correct answer.

Apparently you are supposed to do it by finding the inverse of M, finding the transform of (x,y) under M-1 and putting that into the equation for the unit circle.

I don't get that. Surely we are trying to find the image of the unit circle under M not under M-1 ?

I don't understand why this is, it's not like I look unhappy or uncomfortable or anything. I don't go out with guy friends very often and tend to kind of split away from the rest of the group. I'm wondering if it's the way I look- ugly or intimidating maybe?

I'm a bit confused

This is the question:
24.0cm3 of hydrochloric acid has been added. What will pH be? Solution was made by mixing 24.0cm3 of 0.100moldm-3 HCl and 25.0 of 0.100moldm-3 NaOH

I can do the first step, finding out the no. of moles of H+ and OH- and the excess moles of OH- is 0.10x10^-3

So 0.10x10^-3 moles of OH- are contained in a total volume of 49.0cm3

[OH-] = 1000/49 x 0.10x10^-3

Why is it 1000/49?! Why isn't it 49/1000?

Again, I havent heard anything, should I contact them again? I understand its not looking hopeful, but I would like to get some feedback?
I would like to point out I applied to these before and they sent me a rejection email a few days after, and I haven't even had one of them.
Do you think they could just be busy or genuinely not interested in pursing my application?

Over the past couple of days I've developed something rotten; severe sore throat, swollen glands, headache, pain behind the eyes etc. Spoken to NHS direct who believe it's glandular fever and said the doctor can confirm it if I like but it's Bank Holiday weekend so no appointment can be made. They said it will probably last at least three weeks and there's nothing I can do but rest, take paracetamol and drink fluids. Unfortunately all my exams are the first week of June so not only can I barely revise, I will have this during my exams.

Can anyone who's been in a similar situation give me any advice on what I can do? I've heard you can get consideration and intend to call into school but they are on half term now and don't come back until the day of my two of my exams. Just need to hear anything reassuring to be honest. Thanks

Multimeter says they are both putting out ~16v. Is this bad? Seems like most broken batteries put out less voltage than the stated amount, not more.

Charger is putting out like 4v when I test it with no battery in. No idea if putting a battery in it changes this.

Other/Not applicable AQA A Level English Language

Hello, I had some questions about home study for...

Hello, I had some questions about home study for the AQA A level English exams! I'm not able to attend to school classes regularly, but hopefully I can still get there through other means. I'm struggling to find information on the best options and I could really use some help.

I know there are several places that offer home study, but after reading a bit about that from other people I'm not sure if I want to take that route. I have read that people have needed to buy their own books with little to no support from the institutions offering the courses; If it's as simple as studying the books on your own, I'd rather not pay 400 - 500 for the course.

But then there's the issue of course work. I can't find specific requirements for taking the exam. Can I take the exam without doing any coursework? Or is it possible to send coursework to AQA, without actually being enrolled with any school or institution? Are there GCSE requirements I need to fulfil before I'm able to take the exams?

And I was curious about the necessary materials as well. If you are studying English Language, what text books do you use, and do you make use of any revision books?

Thanks for reading! :)

As a mature student, I'm looking at a course with the UoL Int. Programmes, which allows students 3 to 8 years to complete an undergraduate degree.
In terms of the 2nd degree, it's more of a Level 6 Diploma (ABE) combined with a BA (Hons.), top-up.
There is no guarantee I'll be able to finish both courses at the same time, but if I somehow manage, will employers/universities accept it?

I completed AS English Language and AS Religious Studies when I was at High School, and carried them on to A2 in my first year of college; English Language was one of my four subject choices, whereas I went back to High School to complete Religious Studies.

My problem now, however, is that I have heard that some universities do not accept A Levels completed in Year 12. I missed my Law exam on Thursday due to a mix up, and I will only have 2 AS levels completed in my first year of college, as well as the 2 A2s mentioned - and that some universities will only take 3 A2s completed in the one sitting.

My question is, is this true? I intend to take English Literature at university and I'm currently looking at the admissions policies for Warwick, Leeds, UCL and Oxbridge which do not give any indication about their stance on the issue.

The word 'role model' in today's society does not...

The word 'role model' in today's society does not classify the attributes of a person. It is often given only to celebrities; who have in no way earned such an honourable title. A survey shows that 97% of people chose a celebrity as their role model. This number cannot go unrecognised. This clearly shows that people don't know what a role model is and why we have one. A person who you can look up to and try and become. Someone who only resembles the positive. Could this be to blame for why youths have no ambitions or manors?. As they didn't have a 'appropriate' role model in their life.

Hey any feedback on my beginning introduction ?
I'm aiming for a C grade.

I'm wondering if it's just my family...

We can never go on a family trip without an argument. My mum gets stressed easily, my older brother is very selfish and my little sister gets fed up and stroppy. Therefore it's very easy to start an argument.

EXAMPLE:

Brother eats the remaining chocolate bar in the packed lunch which was for Sister. Sister starts crying and starts moaning about Brother. Mother gets stressed and goes off on one about how we should never have come out for a trip and it is always a disaster.

Example 2:

We are going abroad. Sister explains how she wants to sit in the window seat on the coach to the hotel (After the plane). Brother gets on the coach first and sits in the window seat. Sister gets upset and brother refuses to move. Mother gets stressed and starts shouting at Brother. I retreat once again to a safe distance.

Is it just me that has a dysfunctional family? I mean they can't even replace the toilet roll or put the lid on the orange juice properly. I'm not saying i'm perfect, but at least I can avoid making a show of myself in public...

Hey everyone.
At the beginning of the year,I really didn't think I'd be able to get anything more than ABB but now there's a chance that I might get AAA or higher.I have a firmed conditional for SOAS for AAB but I've been eyeing Edinburgh for a while now. What put me off is that my predicted grades are AAB and on their website, they say that a typical offer for my degree is AAA.
I learned about Adjustment today and I think that If I manage to meet and exceed my offer (fingers crossed!!:S) it would be worth a shot.
I've seen the TSR list on which universities enter Adjustment but Edinburgh wasn't there.Does it mean that they don't consider it at all?
SOAS is a great uni, especially for Asian languages which is what I'm looking to study, but London is outrageously expensive bordering ridiculous so yeah
Should I just contact the uni after I take my exams in about two weeks (hoping I'll be feeling optimistic) and see what they say?

Hey ,

So as the title says i want to be a primary school teacher more than anything.
I applied to uni this year to study primary education at only two unis due to the fact i wanted to stay at home one turned me down saying i didn't seem confident enough in my interview and the second didn't interview me but offered me a place on an education studies course.

So i have either a choice to do the Education Studies course then do a PGCE or take a year out and reapply to do a 3 year BA/BED course.

Either way i will still need to gain confidence as i get very nervous talking in front of people , although when i'm with the kids i don't get nervous at all.

Any tips on which route i should take or how to gain more confidence talking infront of people?

As alcohol molecules get larger their b.p...

As alcohol molecules get larger their b.p increase because the intermolecular forces (specifically: their london forces) get stronger so more energy is required to overcome the forces.

HOWEVER, their melting temperatures get lower (so methanol has a HIGHER melting temperature than ethanol). This seems illogical to me (but clearly happens!) because as the molecules cool and their speed reduces, each molecule attracts its neighbour more strongly. Larger molecules should attract their neighbours MORE strongly at higher temperatures thereby raising their melting temperature, not lowering it.
Why does the opposite happen?

The next day he sits down to read his Daily Mail again; and, this time, finds an article about a gang of Muslim child grooming rapists whose brutal actions make the Woolwich terrorists seem almost gentlemanly. This fact shows that Mohammad was wrong in his opinion but is he going to admit this? Not likely. This time he says, "No true Muslim would do such a thing".
I only ask because I want to revise as efficiently as possible, and if I'm learning information from my class notes/ textbook that I won't be tested on then I won't be particularly efficient!!

So, in a nutshell: are the points on the specification the only stuff you will be tested on (not including suggest/application questions)? Or can everything in the textbook conceivably come up?

University Grade Penalty's?

I am just curious as to how other universities...

I am just curious as to how other universities penalise retakes. As i thought my university's method was the norm. Not something I have to worry about since the end of my appeal but i am still curious as many would describe mine as too harsh.

Basically If you retake any exam/coursework in the summer your capped at 40% for the module.
If you re en-role on the same module the following year your grade is also capped at 40%, if you do a different module then you are also capped at 40%. Your only allowed to re en-role on the same module once, making you potentially short on credit if you fail 4 times, including the 2 summers.

But my climbing instructor told me something interesting he told me he had a 2.1 despite the fact he always had to redo the entire year during the summer, and never learned his lesson but regrets not spending more time on his work during the year as he could have got higher. I wondered how he could achieve that at all because at my university you would not get higher than a 3rd class for doing that. Its first time or nothing basically.

many describe this as pretty harsh. I don't believe in the absence of a penalty, or limiting the number of attempts. But somebody who failed there first year and there 2nd year, having re-enrolled twice, would still be better off than somebody who did exceedingly well in those years and had to retake 3rd year. As thats worth more, but also more difficult as most wold know.

So it seems odd that if you fail something easy your ok but if you fail the most difficult aspect your condemned. Though i spose somebody who took 4 years to do both first and 2nd yr would struggle more in 3rd. Unless they were just drinking too much during that time.

Is this the norm everywhere. Does everywhere have the same policy?

We want A-level modules in January!

Ofqual have announced that from September 2013,...

Ofqual have announced that from September 2013, A-Level students will be unable to sit exams in January. This petition requests that the government retracts their proposal.

The pressure on students studying A-levels is already huge; the government’s proposal will exasperate this and prevent many capable students from achieving their full potential. Furthermore, it will disadvantage young people who have missed school due to uncontrollable circumstances such as illness, bereavement or disability. The decision as to whether or not January exams benefit students should remain a choice for schools.

The role of education is to enable students to achieve their best, if you can appreciate the harm that this change will inflict, then please support young people across the UK by signing below.

Some people may agree with me, some people may not. Either way, you should sign the e-petition so the issue can be debated in the House of Commons, I think it's important that something as serious and important as this is debated in full.

Note: 100k Signatures are needed for it to be debated in full, however if we get a fair amount of signatures it could be brought up in an EDM, adjournment debate or ten minute rule.

Have been puzzling over this one for an hour...

In triangle ABC, AB = x cm,BC = (4-x) cm, angle BAC = yo and angle BCA = 30o.
Given that sin yo = 1/rt 2, show that x = 4(rt 2-1).

Have tried all sorts of things but just can't get it.

The answers give the first stage of the working as x = 4rt
2+rt 2,
but I can't even see how we get to that!

I started with:
x/sin 30 = 4-x
1/rt 2
then
x = 0.5(4-x)

The two official scientifically proven reasons why women wear makeup

*To attract mates*
This is obvious. We are all...

To attract mates
This is obvious. We are all programmed to mate with the fittest, most genetically superior individuals of the opposite sex (or if you're gay, the same sex). It is in our biological makeup that we need to pass on our genes to continue the human race.

Women are of course no exception to this rule. Wearing makeup is just one of the many ways women signal to attractive males that they want to copulate. Essentially by wearing makeup, they are trying to say 'look at me, I am the most attractive woman here, mate with me so we can pass on our superior genetics to create genetically superior babies to continue the human race'.

To fit in/be accepted/not be seen as different
This is a social construct. Humans have an intense desire to fit in with those around them and be accepted. No one wants to be an outcast and be labelled as the odd one out. Women see every other woman wearing makeup and do the same so they fit in with everyone else. More importantly, women see other women wearing makeup, and these women are attracting mates to copulate with them, so they too wear makeup to fit in and be part of this mate attraction process.

Two very important points to note:

1. Women don't consciously know these are the reasons they wear makeup. It is a subconscious thing, as natural as breathing, eating or going to the toilet. They just do it. Whether they admit to it or not, this is scientific fact and they cannot deny cold hard science.

2. Even women with boyfriends and married women do this. Yes, women don't just stop having these urges to attract the most genetically superior mates just because they have a boyfriend. What you must remember is monogomy is a social construct of human society which has been scientifically proven to fail (think how many cheaters/divorces/failed relationships there are in society). Even if a woman has successfully mated with a genetically superior male and given birth to his offspring, this does not stop her from having urges to mate with other genetically superior males. It is simply through societal pressures of monogomy that they cannot act on these urges.

I welcome any and all opinions. :)

The bonus isn't a guaranteed thing however, so im wondering if i need to include that? I really hope i dont as im going to need as much maintenance loan as possible, and if i only have to declare £40,000 I'll get around £2,000 more a year.

Any advice on gaining weight?

I am 17 years old and I have always been really...

I am 17 years old and I have always been really slim to be honest. I'm just generally a small built person.

I have known for about a year now that I am underweight. I had no idea that I was until I went to the doctors with a problem and she decided to calculate my bmi while I was there. Probably because of how slim I am.. I had a bmi of 15!
From there my doctor booked me in for blood tests to check for underlying illnesses that could be causing it. However all of my blood tests came back normal, there was nothing wrong with me. Also, I suffer with anxiety and one of the symptoms of my anxiety was nausea. Due to that I wouldn't eat if I felt nauseas so, my doctor believed it was the anxiety causing me to be underweight. Therefore I was referred to a councillor about my anxiety and it is now under control. I was discharged from my councillor about a year ago now. The problems I used to face no longer occur.

However, now the anxiety problem was under control, my weight still seemed to remain near enough the same. This time my doctor decided to refer me to a dietitian. My doctor was by this point completely baffled as to what is wrong with me and told me that the dietitian was the only idea she had left!

So I have been seeing the dietitian since November 2012 and was recently this month discharged. Not because I had put weight on but, because she said there was nothing more she could advise me to do so it was a bit pointless me still going to see her, which I totally understand. She just told me to continue doing what she had told me to do..

My dietitian advised me to do the following things:
Drink at least 1 pint of full fat milk each day with 2 heaped tablespoons of skimmed milk powered mixed in. She referred to this as enriched milk.
Eat at least one full fat yoghurt a day.
Add olive oil to my meals as this is apparently high in calories.
Try to ignore my stomach when it's telling me I'm full and continue eating.
Make sure I eat frequently, for example at least one thing an hour.

Since first having my bmi calculated at 15 my bmi has risen to 16.89. However this is obviously still underweight and it has remained at this for a while now. I just don't seem to be progressing any further.

I am desperate to put weight on as fast as possible because the course that I will be applying for to study at university requires a satisfactory health check (Midwifery). I begin my application process in September for 2014 entry!

Just to clarify, I am NOT suffering from an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia. This has been checked many times over by various health professionals. I want to gain weight not lose it because I am completely aware I am not at a healthy weight.

Sorry for the very long essay but, I just thought all of this information was appropriate in order for people to advise me..
I would much appreciate any tips or to hear from people in a similar situation!

I'll be study either MSc International management (Loughborough) or MSc Management (Leeds University) depending on which i choose. Loughborough is 1500 more and is rated 7th as the best business university compared to leeds in 29th i think.

I'n not sure which to go for, i obviously want to get good job prospects and im getting to the age of settling (a little bit) and will probably be busy alot. I'll be hitting 24 so will only be going out once every few weeks probably. I'm very social, play footy, and of course love to see eye candy (Girls) being a guy. I'v heard leeds is better for this but is it worth not having that for a year if Loughborough is that much better (if it is)?

Has anyone done either of the courses and can comment on what they are like/the prospects. I am stuck between the two courses and universities
This 50cm3 violet solution contains vanadium in the +n oxidation state. 10cm3 of the violet solution is titrated with 2.25 x 10^-2 mol dm-3 KMnO4(aq). 13.2cm3 of KMnO4(aq) are required to reach the end point.

In the titration, V^n+ ions are oxidised back to VO3- ions, MnO4- ions are reduced: MnO4-(aq) + 8H+(aq) + 5e- --> Mn2+(aq) + 4H2O(l)

Analyse the student's results as follows: determine the value of n in the Vn+ ions formed in stage 2, construct an equation for the reaction that takes place during the titration.

I don't need any advice, just want to get it off...

I don't need any advice, just want to get it off my chest and see if anyone else has stories to share.

I started my weight loss journey in March 2012, and managed to lose a huge 42lbs! I am 5'5", started at 196lbs and managed to get down to 154lbs.

This was me then, I still felt huge and had a lot of self esteem issues, but I felt a lot better than I do now, and my clothes fit so nicely.

I didn't exercise to lose weight (yes, I know. Please spare me) but I controlled my calories to an acceptable level and changed my lifestyle. It was sustainable and I was doing really, really well. However, a large part of my initial weight gain is emotional problems and how I use food to soothe it. Whenever something changes in my life, I struggle.

I moved out of my parental home in July 2012, and the change was hard for me. I struggled a lot with losing weight, and I was really scared. I was either gaining or staying the same. Eventually, though, I pulled up my big girl socks and got right back on track, eventually managing to get down to 154lbs (I was about 170 when I moved out).

In November, I started 'seeing' someone, got on contraception and things got REAL hard for me. I was trying to juggle college, changing jobs nearly every month and finances were hard (I support myself). I started to gain because my eating was out of control. First it was 156lbs, then it was going up and up. I'd get scared and get back on track, losing 2-5lbs, then fall off again and gain that back plus more. I didn't track properly, and became so reckless. My progress graph looked like this;

.

Now, I am 176lbs and terrified. I am only 20lbs away from my starting weight. This is the same skirt, and look how much wider I am :( (apologies for the mirror pics, lol)

I honestly do not need advice. I know how to do it, what to do and have read practically every bit of advice, hints and tips out there. The problem is within, and nobody can really help with that. I just don't give up, I'm gonna keep trying until it snaps inside my brain again and I just DO IT like I was before. I don't wanna be a statistic, one of the many who lose weight and gain it back, especially not with interest.

Anyone else have stories to share?

Thanks for listening.

I am in a not so vibrant city with hardly any jobs but right next door there is a major tourist city with many jobs.

There is only one problem. It's an hour away in car, and therefore it costs a lot of money to get there and back (~£14). I'd be fine if the jobs were full time as you can justify the cost but there not, and when you place into account there will be more then one shift a large chunk of your wages is spent on fuel (~£42).

I'm desperate for a decent job but I just cannot justify the cost implications for part-time hours.

Should I bite the bullet or wait for jobs in my local semi-deprived area that appear once in a blue moon with 100s of applicants?

They both have some good points. But its true germany can easily be a one team league, the prem generates more revenue than the bundesliga as well and while germany produces better players and has a better way of doing things the way that the prem is atm it seems like we'll preserve the status quo.

I think until more revenue is pumped into the bundesliga they will continue to be unable to keep or attract big players from across the world(bayern are the exception), so I agree that the PL is still a better league than the bundesliga.

Also think that an all german final is an exception rather than the rule, we're more likely to see city vs chelsea/united than bayern vs schalke/dortmund in the next few years. Discuss?

Does anybody have any notes or essay plans on the following topics?
-Institutional Aggression
-Evolutionary Explanations
-Group Display
Or just any guidance on how to approach some of the questions. For example, Discuss explanations of institutional aggression or Discuss one or more evolutionary explanations of group display in humans.

A surprising map of where the world’s atheists live

Pope Francis’s pronouncement that God has...

Pope Francis’s pronouncement that God has “redeemed all of us … even the atheists”Wednesday surprised both believers and nonbelievers around the world, who are used to stricter edicts from the Catholic church. It also got us wondering where the world’s atheists live.
There’s surprisingly little data available on the subject. But a 2012 poll by WIN/Gallup International — an international polling firm that is not associated with the D.C.-based Gallup group — asked more than 50,000 people in 40 countries whether they considered themselves “religious,” “not religious” or “convinced atheist.” Overall, the poll concluded that roughly 13 percent of global respondents identified as atheists, more than double the percentage in the U.S.
The highest reported share of self-described atheists is in China: an astounding 47 percent. Faith has a complicated history in China. The state is deeply skeptical of organized religion, which it has long considered a threat to its authority.
In the Taiping rebellion of the 19th century, a religious cult started a Chinese civil war that killed millions of people and left the country exposed to European powers. The official ideology of the Communist government scorned both “new” Western religions and more traditionally Chinese faiths, destroying countless temples and relics during the Cultural Revolution of 1967 to 1977. While today’s Chinese leaders do not seem to share Mao Zedong’s fervent belief that China’s rich religious history was holding it back from modernity, nor do they seem prepared to bring that history back.

Top five regrets of the dying

Here are the top five regrets of the dying, as...

Here are the top five regrets of the dying, as witnessed by Ware:
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

"This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it."
2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.

"This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret, but as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence."
3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

"Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result."
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

"Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying."
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

"This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content, when deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again."
What's your greatest regret so far, and what will you set out to achieve or change before you die?

Hello everyone! I'm new here and had a quick question :)

I finished college on Wednesday and will be going to the University of Surrey in October and have been looking for a part/full-time temporary job until Uni to get some money and experience behind me. Yesterday, I went around Tesco, Morrisons, Sports Direct, Primark, Asda, Marks and Spencers, HMV - any store you can think of really and they all told me that they do not give out application forms and instead told me to look online. I looked online and for my location there were no jobs at all in any of them. I understand it's different for each, but does anyone know how often they update their websites showing vacancies? Is is daily, weekly, monthly etc?

Thanks! :)

I have chosen to do maths, English lit (these are the two I am sure about), history and music (which are the two I'm less sure about). Is a language a useful subject to have? I was thinking of doing Spanish instead of history, and I don't know if i'll be good enough to do music. I play the flute (going to do my grade 8) and piano (going to do grade 7). Has anybody got any advice on what to chose?

Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Francis...

Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Francis explained how upset Jesus' disciples were that someone outside their group was doing good, according to a report from Vatican Radio.

“They complain,” the Pope said in his homily, because they say, “If he is not one of us, he cannot do good. If he is not of our party, he cannot do good.” And Jesus corrects them: “Do not hinder him, he says, let him do good.” The disciples, Pope Francis explains, “were a little intolerant,” closed off by the idea of possessing the truth, convinced that “those who do not have the truth, cannot do good.” “This was wrong . . . Jesus broadens the horizon.” Pope Francis said, “The root of this possibility of doing good – that we all have – is in creation”

"The Lord created us in His image and likeness, and we are the image of the Lord, and He does good and all of us have this commandment at heart: do good and do not do evil. All of us. ‘But, Father, this is not Catholic! He cannot do good.’ Yes, he can... "The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone!".. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”

Responding to the leader of the Roman Catholic church's homily, Father James Martin, S.J. wrote in an email to The Huffington Post:

"Pope Francis is saying, more clearly than ever before, that Christ offered himself as a sacrifice for everyone. That's always been a Christian belief. You can find St. Paul saying in the First Letter to Timothy that Jesus gave himself as a "ransom for all." But rarely do you hear it said by Catholics so forcefully, and with such evident joy. And in this era of religious controversies, it's a timely reminder that God cannot be confined to our narrow categories."

Would like to seek help in understanding the sketching of sin(x^2)=y
I've searched high and low on the internet to no avail, and I've left school for a gap year before applying to Cambridge for Economics so I've been attempting to brush up on mathemathics now.

What would be of great interest to me is the derivation of the exact shape of the graph (not the actual graph itself as it is easily done by any GC) and explanation of it's features and how they are derived (the decreasing period as x increases).

Thank you so very much!

Please keep anon as I know people on here.

Basically, a couple of weeks ago I went out on a night out, and got quite drunk. However, when I woke up in the morning there was a wet patch on the floor by my desk. I assumed I must have spilt some water before going to bed. I later realised it was in fact urine, so I must of sleep walked and relieved myself there in the night. I have never done this before, but I thought I must have just gone a bit overboard, everyone does stupid stuff when they're drunk. However, I then went out this thursday, only to discover I'd done the same thing again!

Why do I keep doing this? I know the obvious answer will be 'because you were drunk', but as I said, I never used to do this, it has literally only started happening in the past 3 weeks or so. Now I'm afraid to go out and have a drink for the fear of doing it again. Any ideas?

Im doing History,English, Psychology and Sociology .My personal tutor said History and English are considered very good subjects if you want to apply for History but i personally think theyre going to refuse me because of Sociology and Psychology ,do you think its a good idea if i take Maths next year,as an intensive course-doing AS and A2 in the same year?
Or do you think my subjects are fine to read History in university?
I'd apreciate your help, because if its not necessary then why would i waste all that money on maths next year.I dont know what to do :-(
