They asked to calculate the total heat change. You dont need to mention about positive or negative signs, cause that wasnt the question.

Silicon is a giant covalent structure. It has lots of strong covalent bonds and so a lot of energy is required to break these bonds apart, meaning it has a high melting and boiling point. This means it is a solid at room temperature.

So could you say the graph doesn't level off and reach a constant temperature?

i think you would, oxygen reacting with coke is correct, i think they usually ignore the ones that are wrong if you have written the rest correct.
