Diversity at University of Aberdeen

I've been looking at study engineering at the University of Aberdeen. I like the modules taught and how you only specialise in the 3rd year. However I see there is an extremely small proportion of minority groups at the University.
As a black person from London, I have no problem with white people but I wouldn't be comfortable being the only black kid in my accommodation and I'd want there to at least be some people from a similar culture. To me. I hope this doesn't come across as racist or anything.
Would I be out of place or stand out as a black man at U of Aberdeen?
I don't think so. some of my friends are at Aberdeen uni already and they met blacks friends straight away. I'm also applying for Aberdeen as well and I'm black so you won't be alone at least  and there's an African Carribean society in Aberdeen

Hello Anonymous #1,

How are you and how is London today? We have the sun out and it is a lovely day!

Short answer, no.

At Aberdeen we are all from all over the world and that is what is great about studying and working here. You will get to meet people from your own area of the UK, and you will meet people from other countries and cultures too! It is a great place to find out out about other people, their culture, and their experiences in a safe and welcoming place. The city is a world energy hub. People working here in Aberdeen are from all over the world too. It is a very exciting place to live in!

I am sure there will be further groups and clubs in Aberdeen you can also join to feel at home.

Enjoy your studies and meeting us all!

Definitely agree  I'm not black but there's quite a lot of black people around, and asian people as well. The university is pretty diverse, and around 3/4 of the people I've met so far aren't even from Scotland or the UK.
Did you go to the open day in Aberdeen

I missed it. It was the day after I realised I want to study at Aberdeen unfortunately. I decided to visit. I am there at the moment and so far I'm a huge fan of the city

I have been looking at applying to Aberdeen also. I am a black student from Manchester. One thing that may put your mind at ease is looking at the University of Aberdeen's African Caribbean society on Instagram just type in 'ACSaberdeen'. It looks as if there's a decent proportion of black students that go there 🙂
Hi, I’m considering Aberdeen for MBA but I heard its too cold and I would like someone to tell me more about it 😊

erm i don't know anything about MBA but i'm sure you could find something online about it and when i went to Aberdeen i loved it straight away. ive heard it can be cold but tbh i stay in glasgow so the cold is nothing new to me. i recommend you going at least once to have a feel for it but its quite a lively city filled with diverse number of people. i hope this is helpful but if you want to know anything more about the city and the uni or accommodation then just ask
I heard about its diversity it looks cool, I’m international student I can’t visit it now unluckily but I’ve stayed in Cambridge couple years ago for two months in the summer and I enjoyed it! How would you say Aberdeen city would differ?
I also don’t mind the cold but usually colder cities have less activities😅
Another thing, I have three choices either to get in Aberdeen, Coventry university Coventry or London campus all for MBA, according to rank Ab has the lead but they usually recommend Cov London campus as its near to real business opportunities and easier to make connections, what would you say? 😊

now i don't stay in Aberdeen but my friend does and she loves it. i stay in Glasgow and its really busy and crazy from morning to night which could have its benefit but ill say that Aberdeen is less crazy that Glasgow because its not as big and busy though im sure they find activities to do when its cold 😅 and it makes sense that the England city would have the most business opportunities but i think its good to move about and try new things and place.

Spoiler

@Juanita9x Have you arrived in Aberdeen?
