Chemistry organic synthesis

Can someone help me work out what 28 and 29 are ( I think that 26 and 27 are water and phenol with No2)
hi 26 and 27 is correct
but im unsure on 28

29 is hcl because its always the product in friedal crafts acylation
Hi,

I've outlined a way to attempt this synthesis below, I'm not sure whether you're doing a levels or not so I included the directing effects of the phenol groups to help show why the NO2 groups add to the C-2 and C-4. If you are still doing A Levels *Ignore this part* you just need to know that the alcohol is an electron donating group so will add the substituent to carbons 2 and 4.

This synthesis starts with a nitration of benzene, where you'll get a mixture of products, followed by a nucleophilic addition-elimination reaction:

(sorry I've just seen I did the first equations wrong lol its late haha... you should form [HNO3]+ I wrote [HNO2]+)

I hope this helps- please let me know if anything is unclear or if you have more questions!!:hello:
