This question is about benzene. I understand benzene has a lower than expected enthalpy of hydrogenation value than kekules structure but why is this?

It has a more stable structure. It is kind of counterintuitive that more stable means less energy is needed to add hydrogens - but picture the enthalpy profile diagram:

I think it's just a lower energy system.
