Schools in France

Can anyone comment on a few schools being considered if Science Po is a no?

Prep classes.. are there some that are better than others for increasing chances to get into Sciences Po?

Paris sud is one of the best unis for sciences (albeit competing with grandes ecoles).
Dauphine is the best uni for business studies (again, struggling in the competition with the elite grandes ecoles); it is trying to establish a reputation in law and public management, but that is still a long cry;
Assas is the leading uni for law (a uni monopoly so no grandes ecoles looming...), a leading uni for econ and business studies (with Paris 1) and an alternative to sc po for political studies (though sc po is let's say unrivalled in this field).

Do not forget there are IEP institutes (political science institutes) in various cities; they just lack to some extent the luster of sc po, but might be worth looking into.

I am not familiar with the prepa for sc po;I believe Ipesup is one of them, so is Lakanal (lycee, I guess, and less pricey).
