My teacher said that when writing essays to do them under headings, like 'Transport', 'Structure', 'Metabolism', etc. What do you guys think about this?

Yeah mine did as well, it is good to group key synoptic concepts together IMO.

What units in the past spec are the essays in? I can't seem to find them :L

Nooo, it is an essay after all! My teachers told me to initially make a plan where you'd state the headings but definitely don't include them in the essay! Well that's just my opinion anyway

Ok, so what can we write for an essay based on Microscopes, wow, didn't think that they could get that specific...
Ok so could we talk about,
Able to see cell organelles,
That all I have :s
BTW, if you run out of time on the essay and you have 5 minutes left, should you go back and complete a really good plan?
Will examiners mark a plan??

Yes, the examiners will credit any detailed points on a plan if the essay is not completed.

They can only mark the essay positively so put anything that could be related in the plan!

I'm still crying over my unit 4 resit, but hopefully after that I'll finish my unit 5 notes today

Btw I'm not sure if any of you guys have done this essay title..but for a class essay we did 'describe how the structure of cells relate to their function.' Now I may be an idiot but I immediately thought of mitochondria, ribosomes...but apparently that's 'ultrastructure.' If I had gotten that in the exam I would probably have came out with a U.
Hallo people, do we need to know about cystic fibrosis/CFTR/lipid wrapping, retroviruses, adenoviruses? It's in the Nelson Thornes book but not on the syllabus! Thanks
I dont like the inorganic ions essay :frown: all i can think to include is nitrogen cycle, action potentials, and possibly muscle contraction? Is there anything else...?

Photosynthesis - reducing NADH - photolysis- LIR
Respiration - reducing NAP, then pumping H+ into intermembrane space - phisphorylation of gluoseleading
Haemoglobin - Fe3+ - binds to oxygen at high partial pressure of O2

Chloera, Co Transport of Ions during digestion.
Haemoglobin using polyphorins.
pH control.
Phospholiphids
ATP and Pi

I suppose its one of those aplication things, Adeonoviruses using Liposomes to insert their DNA into the host cell, via fusing with the squamous epithelial cells ect

Isn't NAD an organic Ion though.

I meant, accepting H+ to become reduced, then the H+ being transferred to ETC, where it leads to formation of ATP through a series of processes

Yeah I think with that title they want you to talk about specific cells that are specialised for their purpose. Like red blood cells being concave in shape and having no nucleus, the sperm cell having a long tail etc

That water essay better not come up, looks a dreadful one and would basically force me to choose the other one.

Theres loads literally just done an essay on it. include nitrogen cycleand how ammonium ions are eventually oxidised to nitrates. calcium ions in muscle contraction and release of neurotransmitter. sodium potassium pump in resting potential and cotransport of glucose. iron ions in heamoglobin and hydrorogen ions in photosynthesis and respirtation.

hope that helps buddy

What you wrote is correct, the mark scheme seems to be wrong. I was wondering this aswell. Not a well written specimen paper :/

The mark scheme is wrong, it's been talked about here a few times already

Brilliant - thank you both!

according to the mark scheme if there are fundamental inaccuracies you would lose marks.
