redox question: MgO + HNO3 ?

Is this a redox reaction? Explain with oxidation numbers (2 marks)

MgO + HNO3 ----> Mg (NO3)2 + H2O

I said it isn't becausw there's no change in oxidation numbers, am I right?
Thank you!

You're correct (I think!) :smile:

One mark would be for recognising that there is no redox (maybe), the other (or perhaps both) would be for stating what the oxidation numbers on all the atoms are.

Thank you! And i checked the mark scheme and you have to say there's no redox reaction and give an example :smile:
