As I have got into Aberdeen and Birmingham for my Masters which have very similar courses I love (both courses are for Molecular Biology)...... Unable to decide which uni to select !
Both are great universities
Would like to know on what basis should I be selecting the uni? Any suggestions???

Hello Anonymous, I noticed your thread about which course to choose at postgraduate level. The most important aspect to any programme is how it will enhance your future career, especially at postgraduate level. The programmes at Aberdeen are designed to give you depth so that you can choose to work for wide ranging industries and organisations in your sector globally, or have the skills to become a consultant or specialist, or continue to PhD, or apply your knowledge and have the capability to start your own business.

There are a lot of postgraduate students who have gone on to form very successful spin out companies particularly in the big innovation areas in sciences or set up as consultants. Many industries also need well qualified graduates to push their business forward. Take a look at what is happening in innovation in Scotland as your discipline can feed into several potential innovation areas on top of the more obvious areas and markets. You will be amazed at just how many directions you can potentially go in life with your degree discipline.

Postgraduate degrees allow you to acquire the level of analytical, research and industry knowledge to have quite a few options across your lifetime. Take a look at the schools, their centres and institutes and research each course module you will be studying and the value it presents for your future plans or the options it gives you to have different employment options. Hope this helps you to decide what to factor in when choosing programmes.

If you are trying to decide which university to go to perhaps work out your lifestyle needs outside of university, your interests, events and societies you can get involved in and any voluntary work that helps you build a great CV and the type of place you like living in. Good luck with your studies!

Previous famous graduates from that particular uni?
Proximity to a world famous molec bio lab, where you can spend a month of lab/work experience?
Check linked-in or similar professional dating app (work, sorry) and enumerate the quality & quantity of post-grad work opportunities in a) Aberdeen b) Brum
I’m typing this from Leeds where a lot of friends are not tykes (born & bred yorkists), just ppl who forgot to go home ever from uni at the end of their studies, you might get “life-inertia” and be ‘stuck’ for a decade or more in this simple binary option city! Just think....

More thorts, For ex, if you’d done oil or gas or deep-diving or geo, wind-studies, Aberdeen would be your default, (and look how quickly they have replied) - I think you would find Scotland friendlier than Brum, who are also nice - but a bit more reserved
if your interests started with Balti’s, Shakespeer (he couldn’t spell either) , canals, then it’s Brum

Hello again Anonymous,

How are you? If you are staying in university accommodation you are sent a contract to advise you when it is best to arrive at your accommodation. From the information on that page it looks like very early September but you will get a date sent through from the team. There is a lot of really useful information on this page. You will receive a series of emails from the Infohub team to let you know in sequence what you need to do and when and this will start when they have everything ready for you. You will also receive information from your School to let you know about where to report to and when to arrive.

It looks like the team are in the process of updating information to help new students in September on the website but I would read about Getting Started, and Before You Arrive. Also view Campus Life,Term Dates,Registration, and Student Life. All of this information gives you a useful overview and an idea about what will happen and when.

I am sure the team will get back to you asap regarding your offer but try not to worry. It is always difficult knowing what is happening between times but all the team here are working hard to get things ready. Hope this helps and enjoy your studies here at Aberdeen. It is a beautiful university and setting!
