PHP Scandir on ftp not working

I'm using PHP to list all of the files in my photobucket account to display link on my webpage. My code works fine when running locally (using WAMP). However, when uploaded to my web server (Streamline.net) it fails:

Warning: scandir(ftp://[email protected]/) [function.scandir]: failed to open dir:

I'm using the scandir function, however, I've also tried using opendir and ftp_nlist. Neither has worked.

Is this an issue specific to my web host or is there a better method for this?

I imagine it is something to do with the PHP configuration. The fopen() wrapper for FTP needs to be enabled (the allow_url_fopen directive) and FTP will need to be a registered stream.

Create a PHP file with the following and post the link to the file:

Alternatively, you could try using the cURL library/functions.

Hm, the configuration looks alright.

Ensure full errors are being displayed and post the full output of your code using scandir(), opendir() and ftp_nlist(). You could also try file_get_contents().

Prepending the following at the top of the file will ensure you receive all error messages:

Error reporting wont work because I get a 500 Internal Server Error rather than the page.

Could you see what errors (if any) the following generates:

Again, works locally - but the above is the error (from the 500 Internal Server Error page).

Try this to rule out any photobucket server/authentication related problems:


$rConnection = ftp_connect('ftp.blueyonder.co.uk');

$bLogin = ftp_login($rConnection, 'anonymous', '');
if ($bLogin === TRUE)
{
    $aListing = ftp_nlist($rConnection, '.');   
    print_r($aListing); 
}

You should see the following output:

Array ( [0] => sites [1] => mirrors [2] => incoming [3] => blueyondergames )

$rConnection = ftp_connect('ftp.blueyonder.co.uk');

$bLogin = ftp_login($rConnection, 'anonymous', '');
if ($bLogin === TRUE)
{
    $aListing = ftp_nlist($rConnection, '.');   
    print_r($aListing); 
}

You should see the following output:

It works locally. But produces the 505 Internal Server Error again when hosted:

I think it's definitely a problem with the PHP setup. It's running as FastCGI which seems to be inhibiting it somewhat.

I'll experiment and see what I can come up with.

I've done more searches on the internet and it actually appears to be a Streamline.net error.

It appears it is a known issue, as reported:
