Hi really dont understand the anticlock wise rule....i dont see what its used for and why its used also when asked to write the half equation how are you suposed to know which direction a reaction goes in i.e fe2+---> fe3+ + e- or fe3+ + e------>Fe2+
Try reading link1, link 2, example. Link 2 offers an alternative way of thinking about it. If you still don't understand it, say so and I'll try and go over it .
Anti clockwise rule can be quite time consuming sometimes, have you heard of RHE - LHE calculation of E(cell) value? If it is positive, then the reaction is spontaneous(depends on how positive it is)
If it is negative, then the reaction is not spontaneous, or sometimes won't go if it is very negative - eqm constant will be very small, reactants side favoured.
