Going to guess around 37-39 for The a* on this paper, been 38 for an a* two years running now.
I'm going for 34 because last time empirical formula came up the boundaries were low and loads of people missed two marks out. Also, there were some tricky questions. The paper was nice but I did ****.
For the ion question (in electrolysis) - Didnt it ask why a molten ionic compund could conduct electricity, not why a solid ionic compound could not conduct electricity?????????
Yeah that was a different question, the one that says the ions are mobile!
why are some people saying that for the emperical formula it was FeO2??? and that the electrolysis question was 2Mg+ +2e- -> 2Mg???? im confused lol
Fe, O percentage = 70, 30 divided by relative atomic mass = /56, /16 = 1.25, 1.875 (I think people rounded their answers here or on the step below) divided by the smallest = 1,1.5 times by 2 to get a whole number = 2,3 (Fe2O3)
for the electrolysis ion question, did it ask why they could conduct electricity when molten or that they couldn't when solid??????????????????????????

Yes, your right, just remembered about that. I put because electrons are free to move when molten so can carry current or something like that

For 1a- could you write, they couldn't provide enough heat energy (since it said it was very endothermic) For 1aii- could you write that they had to provide enough energy for the particles to collide ????? Thankyou in advance

i) I don't think so ii) You might get away with it, not sure though
