Final Volume

One cylinder in the diesel engine of a truck has an initial volume of 700 cm3. Air is admitted to the cylinder at 30 ∘C and a pressure of 1.0 atm. The piston rod then does 400 J of work to rapidly compress the air.

What is the final volume?

Can we assume this is an adiabatic process? Doing the normal w=-pdV is not giving the correct answer, since Vfinal should be less than Vinitial, but it keeps coming out greater. What am I doing wrong?

I wouldn't say that this is adiabatic, no.
