La France et l'Europe

I have got an essay question of "La France profiterait plus si elle quittait bientot l'UE. Discutez."

We have been told to mention ERASMUS, PAC - The agriculture agreement that gives France loads of money from the EU. How are these positives of France pulling out of the EU? Surely they are negatives? France loses it's agriculture subsidy, and regarding ERASMUS, they wouldn't be able to send students abroad to study.

Presumably, your teacher suggested that you consider things like Erasmus because in an essay like that, you've got to give both sides of the argument. Other bonuses (boni?) of the EU include easier trade because of the common market and a platform from which we can compete with the large economies of USA and Japan for example, easier travelling with the single currency etc. As for the negatives of the EU, you've got a standardisation of laws for countries that have completely different cultures, increased smuggling (of people and drugs) the more countries sign up to the Schengen agreement which renders borders basically unwatched, a loss of national identity and the common market making it unfairly difficult for 3rd world countries to trade with European countries...thats all I can think of right now, basically because the EU is a good thing.

Hope that helps.
