Resources for A-level Goverment and Politics

Hey everyone.

I'm going to sit AQA A-level politics in the space of one year (both AS and A2). I'm doing this self taught, so obviously I'll need all the help I can get. Can anybody recommend some books, websites etc for me to use? Also, can anybody share any advice on structuring essays and the like?

Thanks in advance.

I'm doing the same thing! (Edexcel, though). But alongside other A-Levels as well.

At the moment, I've just got the four unit guides (make sure to choose which units you're taking at A2 level before ordering, for obvious reasons):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/AQA-AS-Government-Politics-Participation/dp/0340959576/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1315501457&sr=8-3

I've been told many times that I need to keep up with the news/political developments and such. I've bookmarked a few sites, but haven't looked at them yet, so I don't know what they're like:

http://liamb.edublogs.org/
http://www.tutor2u.net/blog/index.php/politics/
http://politicsteacher.co.uk/

So far, that's all I've got. I'm thinking of applying to Politics Review magazine, but as a self-taught student, I'm not sure how it would work. I might be sending them an email soon, if you're interested just email them or check back on here and I may have edited my post (If I do decide to email them, that is):

http://www.philipallan.co.uk/politicsreview/index.htm

Obviously a bit of wikipedia, looking on the AQA website for past papers/mark schemes and a few more broad politics books would help too:

http://web.aqa.org.uk/qual/gce/humanities/gov_politics_overview.php

Anyway, hope that helped a bit.

I'm studying other subjects alongside this one as well, even though some of my other subject teachers advise against it (because I'm also resitting a few units in them to get my UMS ultra high). It'll be tough, but oh well, I like a challenge.

Cheers for the links, I'll check them out right after I finish this essay.

Yeah, I've been told I'm taking on too much, but hey, as long as I put the effort in

And hope the links are of some use, at least.
Hi, I did Edexcel but I used all exam board text books and my teacher's notes, nothing specific. The only thing that was exam specific in my lessons was the mark schemes. There was a book by Heywood that was very good for AS. Politics Reviews come in handy because they have exam tips in there. Also, look at past questions - I went through about five years worth and managed to predict what questions would come up for A2.
