It's a pretty sad state affairs if we call paid murderers who drop bombs on children and take joy in killing to line the pockets of arms manufacturers, banks and oil companies "heroes"

I'd have to question their morals.

By joining the Army, I believe you have shown a great deal of courage. You have decided that you are prepared to fight, and if necessary, die for the security of your country.

When was the last time there was a war fought on grounds of security and not corporate enrichment?

By joining the armed forces you are officially declaring that your life has no value, that you are willing sign your life away to be a pawn of a State which does not care about you, or whether you die or live, only if you can obey orders and force weaker nations at gunpoint to do as it says.
A number of people in the armed forces are just thugs who dropped out of school and had nothing else they could do but kill brown people for a living. However atleast they dont sit around all day on the dole like most in this country.

All soldiers are not Heroes, but there are more heroes sleeping in a barracks, then there are sleeping on a campus.

I agree- a soldier has more chances to be a hero. But I don't really get your point, no one's saying students are heroes, are they?

"Well, Jim, we appreciate that you dragged four of your injured buddies out of the line of fire whilst risking being shot yourself, but if you look at line 45 of your job description it clearly states 'may be required to rescue friends from gun fight'. So you're level-pegging in the 'hero' stakes with Bob the taxi driver, who drove his taxi today, as required by his job description".

Class.

No.
It almost justifies war and killing people.

Some wars are completely justified.

Very little. You can hardly call someone a hero for ruining the lives of many people.

I diddnt curse them.
Why should you fight for your nation?
It just happens that you were born there.

No, you are not just "born there". This country, its people, its citizens have something that many people in the world. It is called freedom. Do not be so selfish. Before you wish to contribute in a debate, it would be best if you learnt a bit around the subject.

You are kidding yourself you sound like you were a brainwashed zombie soldier in WW2 who believed that they were fighting against the evil enemy when in fact they were fighting for the enemy. You understand the German Nazi's were fighting for the survival of their nation? against the coming communists who we sided with, despite the fact they were 100x more evil than the Nazi's.Hitler and the Nazi's are demonised the same way Gadaffi and other so called dictators are demonised. Hitler loved the British people and all Europeans, there were many times the Nazi's showed mercy towards the British hoping it would get them to reconsider who the enemy is.Hitler could parade around infront of millions of people without bullet proof glass but can you say the same about todays leaders? he was a loved man by many, he is guilty of nothing because the holocaust is nothing more than a propaganda lie by the Zionists who rule over us today. Extermination camps don't have a swimming pool located right next to the inmate housing.

Not sure if serious here?

Not by default, no. In the same way that the statement "trust is earned" is true, the moniker hero is not one given out 'just because'.

Not that it really matters, but in 1941 the RAF had already fought for the survival of the nation and cancelled the Nazi invasion. We aren't the Americans. We know WWII started in 1939, not December 1941.

Well... 1937 if you are Chinese

There have been a lot of legitimate wars. World War 2, Korean War, Falklands War, 1991 Gulf War, etc. The British intervention in Sierra Leone worked out very well. Let's get away from this idea that "all war is evil", some wars are fought legitimately and some things need to be fought for. People often forget that Afghanistan started with legitimate intentions as well, but years down the line just doesn't appear to have worked as planned.

I appreciate them, but hero's? Nah. It's a career choice.

You do not simply become a citizen of a country by going on holiday there.
