REDOX

Which of the following is a redox reaction?
A Ca + 2H2O--> Ca(OH)2+ H2
B MgO + H2O--> Mg(OH)2
C NaCl + AgNO3-->AgCl + NaNO3
D Na2CO3+ 2HCl--> 2NaCl + CO2 + H2O

can someone tell me why A is the answer?

thanks!

In redox reactions, one molecule particle is reduced and one is oxidised. Oxidation is the loss of electrons, reduction is the gain of electrons. Calcium gains loses electrons from to the hydroxide hydrogen ions produced by dissociation of the water molecules, and hydrogen loses ions gain electrons from the oxygen molecule calcium atoms .

Try to assign oxidation numbers to all elements present in all reactions. If they don't change, there is no electron transfer.
