If you dislike seeing breastfeeding then you are the one with the problem

I don't see why mothers can't respect the fact that some people don't like to see it and at least cover up a bit.

Why some men can't respect the fact that some people don't want to see them shirtless?

The reason why we don't like to see masturbating in public is because its very unhygienic. You're touching a part of the body which you urinate with, and your spraying out fluids which could potentially have diseases in them.

Breastfeeding is totally hygienic.

As counterintuitive as that may be, urine is cleaner than your saliva - it can be used to clean wounds, it's about as unhygienic as you can get when it comes to body fluids. Your spit is more unhygienic than your urine.

If it bothers you, I'll do it in a public park 10 meters apart from anyone else or I'll just slap on a condom. Better?

1.

Do you really think a mother feeding her child equates to public masturbation(something which male harassers actually use far too often to make victims uncomfortable, ashamed and vulnerable)?

Public breastfeeding was defended by the claim that it is good, natural and doesn't inherently harm anyone. Masturbation is exactly the same. So the same argument applies to masturbation, therefore public masturbation should also be allowed.

Women flashers bother me. Exposing some saggy ass breasts bothers me. Why do women get a free pass whereas men don't?

It's natural, it doesn't bother anyone except for some really weeird people.

But natural =/= good, and it is worth bearing this in mind because it's letting a whole load of other s**t into the thread. It's not sexualisation of anyone, because children are meant to breatfeed, and I doubt you can see much if you're not the baby seeing as it's face will be in the way. Unless you're trying quite hard, that is.

So yeah, obviously should be allowed, plenty of other things in this thread should not be allowed.
It's ok as long as they have one of those blankets that hides it.
This isn't an argument. It's just like saying, "Well if you hate genocide then that's you with the problem."

Retarded logic right there.

I'm not so much put off by breastfeeding other than when I'm eating. I don't think it should be allowed in an area where people are trying to enjoy a meal. I think mothers need to also be considerate of others, just as much as others need to be more tolerant of breastfeeding women. I would like to think a woman would excuse herself to the bathroom if she needed to breastfeed in a restaurant.

I do wonder why it's an issue though. I don't remember the last time I saw a woman breastfeed in public, so what are all these other women doing?

Some of the arguments here are nonsense, though.

1. "Oh it's natural." So is taking a ****, but I still can't do it in the street.
2. "Oh it's the people who don't like it who are the problem." They would argue the exact opposite. You can't just say someone is wrong because we all want to be oh so liberal these days.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the social awkwardness of people around the breastfeeding woman. I mean where are you supposed to look exactly? It's like if someone is walking around with one leg. It does feel awkward because you want to stare at the leg but you know it's wrong.

Of course, people just like to shout down the counterarguments, which is why nothing really gets done.

And what about if a woman is eating in the restaurant? Breastfeeding can take up to an hour, her food will most likely be cold by then. Or the staff may have cleared it. It's the same as someone being told to go to the bathroom until the woman is done feeding her child if they feel uncomfortable.

As for where are you supposed to look, maybe look at your companion or surroundings. Where would you look normally essentially.

An hour? **** me, should have probably stayed at home if they intended on doing that.

Well yes, that too. We're talking about breastfeeding here though, not listing everything people do that isn't socially acceptable.

To be honest I have an issue with parents bringing babies to restaurants in general let alone breastfeeding them there. If people are paying money to enjoy a meal they shouldn't have to listen to babies crying or see mothers exposing themselves while they eat.

I've never had the fortune of witnessing it
I think everyone has skipped over the main reason that breastfeeding should be allowed and even encouraged in public - Breast feeding is good for your baby and breast feeding rates are shockingly low in this country. If a woman can't breastfeed in public she has a number of choices:

a) use a pump and bottle it.
Pumping is uncomfortable, takes a big chunk out her day and means she can't be out long as breast milk needs refrigerating even more than normal milk due to not being pasteurised.
b) go somewhere grotty like the toilets to do it.
This is unhygienic and unpleasant.
c) Spend the next months of her life indoors.
Depressing, impractical, pretty much a no go.
d) move to formula
Not as good for the baby, can cause breast milk production to stop.

Let's face it, everyone's going to choose option d) out of those, it is by far the easiest and most practical option. So then children's health in this country will suffer as a result.

Mothers have every right to go out. They probably need to as well. From what I've heard, it can be hard and lonely for the mother after having a baby so socialising is kinda important.

As for parents not bringing their children, unfortunately the world isn't perfect and sometimes trusted babysitters and such are not easy to find. What are the parent's supposed to do, not go out until their kids can behave? That's not exactly possible.

So women shouldn't leave the house for a year after giving birth?

Problem is by very definition breast are sexual

except, no they're not. Feeding an infant is only sexual if you're ****ed in the head.
I honestly don't think anyone has a problem with this. This just seems like a TSR circle jerk so everyone can feel proud about how tolerant they are.

This isn't news, nor a debate. Well done for stating the obvious.
I personally don't think it's a very pleasant thing to see, but tbh I'd think it very weird if people chose to just watch lol; honestly, I have no major problem with women breastfeeding in public though I do think it'd be a bit odd to do it in certain places. But each to there own I guess -prepares to be shot by all other posters-
If she's fat and gross like they usually are, I'd prefer it to be out of sight when I'm trying to eat at a restaurant.

Does that mean if someone finds your appearance offensive and moans about it then you would go and eat your dinner in the toilet?
