Hi I have attached the solution and my working out but can someone tell me please why my working out doesn't work? I took the inverse of B but it doesn't equal A. I don't understand the solutions.

If AB = Identity then A and B are inverses of one another.
In the first page you show exactly that

As TeeEm said regarding the actual question.

Regarding your working, you've got problems with the constant multiplier, arising from the fact that

det(cA)=cndet(A)\operatorname{det}(cA)=c^n \operatorname{det}(A)

for constant c, and matrix A of dimension n x n.
