#growingupwithmyname

just seen this on twitter so thought i would make a thread about it , what things did you have to put up with growing up because of your name

nothing really odd for me but there was 3 of the same first name in my class so when the register was read out it was interesting.

My name is spelt irregularly, very irregularly. Not met one person with its spelling, so every single time we had a new teacher, they made a scene of it and I got laughed at :frown:

To make it worse I was first on the register too lmao.
terrorist references :colonhash:

Everyone and their dog have the same name
Never being able to find Alice bands or key rings with my name on. (They had always already sold out- I have a v common name).

Well I have a Chinese surname so people used to take the piss out of that a lot at school.
People always got it wrong when I was younger :colonhash: however, now people say it's sexy and someone even said I have a pornstar name...... I don't think that's what my parents were going for tbh :/

They just didn't exist for me :frown:
"Isn't that a girls name?" when clearly, it is a somewhat popular unisex name.

People don't know which way my name should be because both my first and last names can be first and last names. Especially abroad.

Thomas Steven?

Yup; I have like three cousins called Daniela  it is a really pretty name though :undefined:yep
It sounds cheesy but my name is where a lot of my confidence has come from, the vast majority of the time that I have told people my name I have been complicated on it which made me believe I was really special growing up lol I love my name!

constantly being refered to as mollie/miley, having to spell out my surname and once I'm done people saying 'oooh, that's a rare name!" like yes.

where are they from?
Constant misspellings, mispronouncings etc - literally from like secondary school onwards I knew that if we had a supply teacher, I would have to correct my name over and over again. At my old school, I had this teacher who consistently mispronounced my name for like 3 years and I didn't have the heart to correct her (good job I left, eh?)

when there's 5 other girls in your class with your name and the teacher says
"[name] your turn to read" and you all start reading at the same time X'D

or when they take the register and you say "yes" to every one of them because you don't know which one is you

or when your teachers call you by your surname or firstname and initial of surname (e.g. John S, John A, John B) X'D

Also when people try to spell my name and add in random letters which, if you sound it out, don't even fit at all. Rlly rlly annoying especially as my name is quite phonetic!!
