Ionic equation, Diprotic acid help :(

image.jpg*This is from question 7 of the Jan 13 f325 paper*

Completely stuck on how to get the correct answer - since my answer won't cancel down to the usual acid and h+ ionic equation I know I'm wrong, I just don't understand why! I thought when mg reacts with hSO3- this splits to so3^-2 and H??

Could anyone explain this to me?

You can tell that your answer is incorrect as the charges do not add up on either side.

2HSO3- + Mg --> Mg2+ + 2SO32- + H2

In terms of ionic equations
