Auxin

In a moment of inspiration earlier- and day dreaming, i was contemplating how auxins work. I know that they elongate the cell by making the cell more permeable to water n stuff- and they encourage growth. what i was thinking about was how there can be more auxin down one side of the stem of a plant so that it bends towards the light.

I was wondering if a plant is exposed to harsh weather conditions, like strong winds, for long periods of time do the auxin levels increase on one side, so it adapts eg- if winds come from the south west (like the glorious british prevailing winds) would there be increased leverl on the side facing the SW so that the stem of the plant bends to the NE??

sorry that was so long-winded!

I thought the bending was due to the fact auxins are destroyed in light? So the light side's auxin is destroyed and the dark side's isn't, so it grows toward the light.
