economics a level index numbers question

Can someone please help me with this multiple choice question from June 2009 AQA paper 1? :frown:

The table below indicates the average price of organic turkey in price index form.

Year / Price index
2004 100
2005 105
2006 120
2007 110
2008 125

Which one of the following can be deduced from the above data?
A the price of organic turkeys rose throughout the whole period 2004 to 2008
B compared with 2008, the price of organic turkeys was 20% cheaper in 2004
C revenue from the sale of organic turkeys fell in 2007
D between 2006 and 2007, the price of organic turkeys fell 10%

The correct answer is B, but I don’t understand why, surely the index would have to be 120 in 2008 for this to be true?

Hey, i'm not quite sure how the answer is B, however an increase in the index points is not the same as a percentage change.
Hope that helps x

20% of 125 is 25. 125 -25 is 100, so b is correct. You have to look at it from the perspective of 2008 not 2004. hope that helps

the answer is B i'll show you the calculation:
You first want to find the difference of the index number (100-125= 25)
Once you done that you then find the percentage change but instead of dividing by your original number you divide by you new. (25/125 x 100) which gives us 20.
hope this helps I was stuck on this question as well but i feel as if we all got stuck because of the division of the new number.
