Velocity of the moon and ISS?

I’m trying to calculate the velocity of the moon and the ISS using the equation below:

V2=gR2 (2/r−1/a)

Where:

V is velocity
g is the gravitational constant
R is radius of Earth
r is the distance of satellite/object from earth's centre
a is the semimajor axis
I keep trying but don’t seem to be getting very far.

It is not clear what it is you are having issues with.

Are you getting answers that are wrong when you validate with an online source? Are you missing input information? etc...
