How do parents view marketing towards children’s food choices and health?

Has your decision-making on children’s food products been influenced by market promotions?
If so, how has this impacted on the food products your children consume?
How has the COVID-19 pandemic altered your views on children’s eating habits?
Do you think marketing has affected the childhood obesity epidemic?

We are very big on ultra-processed food and have tried to cut out as much of it as possible. Sadly though, all the "nice" goods are laced with the stuff.

We are now in a horrendous situation where pretty much all food labelled as "healthy" or "low fat" is inherently bad for you. I think most people don't stand a chance. For example, did you know that budget mayonnaise (mayonnaise - egg + oil) contains more egg than "healthy" mayonnaise. The protien is substituted with modified starch and various emulsifiers + flavourings. It looks and tastes like mayonnaise but has none of the ingredients required to make proper mayonnaise. How did we get there?

We don’t have kids so maybe not entirely on topic, but we eat healthier now post covid than pre-covid simply because we now make almost everything fresh. So much time to kill during covid, started cooking rather than buying processed ready foods. It tastes better, it is better and as a bonus is cheaper.
