Teaching, Academic and assessment support week

I've firmed Birmingham, starting in September.

Do we actually get to go home for the reading week (or, I assume that's what the fancy name means!)?

I thought so, but reading now that 'All students are expected to be in attendance throughout term time, including assessment support and assessment periods.', I am confused.

Someone tell me, as my birthday is likely to fall in one of these weeks and my parents are interested in this fact.

Reading week for some subjects will be in the middle of the semeter - maybe around 6 weeks in? We have assessment support periods in the last week before the christmas and easter break just to consolidate material before the exams but there aren't many contact hours so lots of people do head home early. You will receive your timetable at some point in September before the semester starts and be able to see then.

I used to go on holiday in reading week. In fact, sometimes I still do!
