Help! I'm doing my Chemistry coursework on rates of reactions between sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid. I have drawn my graphs but I can't explain them because I don't know what a curve in the graph means. Can any one explain??
It depends on the shape of your graph (and what you've plotted), but start by considering whether your reactions are first order/second order and the order of reaction wrt both sodium thiosulphate and the hydrochloric acid.
I have plotted the concentration of the Sodium Thiosulphate and the time. The Hydrochloric Acid in kept the same throughout the experiment. I have plotted my graph with crosses. it goes in a curve top to bottom.
So you've plotted concentration of sodium thiosulphate against time taken for reaction to complete? You've then got to make another graph with the rate (1/time). Depending on the shape of the graph, you can work out the order of reaction.
Yes I done three lots of experiments I've made a graph for each and one for the averages. I can't do that because we haven't been taught how to do that in school and my teacher will not accept it. I need to explain the curve. The lower the concentration the longer the experiment took.
