Sticking it in water?

Thinking about it, there are loads of ways you can damp stuff!

Yes sticking it in water is a good example, also when a pendulim is oscillating it will gradually stop because of air resistance (this is light damping).
A damper
In car suspension anyways.
Otherwise, immerse in a viscous fluid. Mount oscillator on deforming (i.e. rubber) mounts, loads of ways!

In a pipe cladding to increase air resistance / friction increase surface area somehow ie with a pendulum put a piece of paper on the string
Well, water damps in more than one way

But yeah, the more viscous the medium the object is oscillating in the more damped it's oscillations will be.
